Finger Eleven

So they have a new single out right now called Paralyzer. At first listen I was like WTF!? because honestly the lyrics suck and it's very different from what they normally do, but without the lyrics, it's fairly rocking... and is growing on me. They do have very catchy instrumentals... even though it's almost like a POP song more than the good old school finger eleven. It was supposed to be like a dance music track though even though the guitars are rockin'

Their new album titled Them vs. You vs. Me comes out March 13th, 2007 in Canada and March 20th in the US.

I get the feeling this is going to be a huge track at radio. It's probably the catchiest rock radio single I've heard in a couple of years. The lyrics aren't up to par... but I don't think that the song was intended to be in that vein anyways.

It sounds kind of weird but it has this Rainbow Butt Monkeys feel to it. It is what it is though and I do like the track. I'm curious to see what the album's like though. I loved Tip and The Greyest of Blue Skies, but I thought that Self-Titled was terrible... so here's hoping they bounce back.

Also, does the main guitar riff not sound exactly like that one Franz Ferdinand single?

I hated the last album so much that it even brought my opinion of their first two albums down. Although I did like "One Thing," which of course was undoubtedly the biggest song they've ever had.

And I just listened to the new song. It's pretty catchy, but I don't know if I actually like it. I also have to keep in mind that ever since the age of Creed, Wind Up Records has reached a level of suckage that not many labels can reach these days.

And who produced the new album? Was it that idiot Johnny K again?

i immensely dislike the lyrics. see for yourself.

I hold on so nervously
To me and my drink
I wish it was cooling me
But so far, has not been good
It’s been shitty
And I feel awkward, as I should
This club has got to be
The most pretentious thing
Since I thought you and me?
Well I am imagining
a dark lit place
Or your place on my place

Well I’m not paralyzed
But, I seem to be struck by you
I want to make you move
Because you’re standing still
If your body matches
What your eyes can do
You’ll probably move right through
Me on my way to you

I hold out for one more drink
Before I think
I’m looking too desperately
But so far has not been fun
I should just stay home
If one thing really means one
This club will hopefully
Be closed in three weeks
That would be cool with me
Well I’m still imagining
A dark lit place
Or your place on my place

I’m not paralyzed
But, I seem to be struck by you
I want to make you move
Because you’re standing still
If your body matches
What your eyes can do
You’ll probably move right through
Me on my way to you

We’ll I’m not paralyzed
But, I seem to be struck by you
I want to make you move
Because you’re standing still
If your body matches
What your eyes can do
You’ll probably move right through
Me on my way to you

Those lyrics aren't completely correct. People have discussed corrections over at the F11 board, but can't edit the original post and no one's reposted em.

Yah, those lyrics are horrible. But the song itself as many of you said is catchy... I think i have to hear some more songs before I say anything about the record. Hopefully it's not as bad as the single.

I've heard the new album and on my first listen I hated it. Paralyzer is the hardest or most rocking song on the album... which says a lot... I like the album a lot more after a few listens, but there are only about 6 or so songs that I like so far. It's nowhere near as good as Tip still... It's not a great album. It's just not their style because they have a lot of slow songs due to the fact that One Thing was their biggest song. Now they're trying to write more radio friendly stuff it seems, which I don't like.

Didn't they already try to do that with the last album though, just not in the slow/midtempo arena? It certainly seemed boring and what a lot of other bands were already doing and getting played on the radio. Pretty much everything about the album was straight from the Rock for Dummies manual.

Anyway, I downloaded Paralyzer and couldn't even bring myself to listen to the rest just because a lot of the song titles are stupid. I listened to quick five second samples and decided "Yeah, I really did quit being a fan of Finger Eleven four years ago." Oh well.

Actually, I relistened to their last album and other than One Thing and Thousand Mile wish, a lot of those songs are really rocking (especially compared to this new album) and I realize now that I really liked a lot of songs from that album.

Been listening to the new album for a while now, and have finally formed an opinion. First off Scott Anderson's vocals are top-notch on this disc. He really has improved his delivery over the last 10 or so years. I'm a little puzzled by wind-up's decision to leave the title track off of the American release, but oh well. Anyways, my favorite tracks are

Falling On
Lost My Way
Sense of a Spark
Gather and Give
Easy Life (my top pick for the entire album!)

Ok songs:

Talking to the Walls
So-so Suicide
Change the World

Clunkers:

Paralyzer (I REALLY tried to like this song but its so damn mechanical)
I'll Keep Your Memory Vague
Window Song

I must admit, when i first listened through, I was disappointed, but I now can enjoy 3/4 of this album, and I bet this stuff sounds great live!

Yeah I'm with you mostly theo, I like the album a lot more now and it would be good to hear live, but it's still their most mellow album by far... which is kind of disappointing. I mean people thought their last album was kind of more soft due to one thing and thousand mile wish, but that album is waaaay harder when I went back and listened to it.

i really like paralyzer.. it gets stuck in my head all the time, and i loveee dancing to it at the bar haha
you have to, you just have to trust me
whoever i was then i can't ever be again
the faith you've found i've never felt
the terror held in wedding bells
the comfort in "there's no one else"
the truth be told, i'm never going to know

Finger Eleven's recent concert in Knoxville that I recorded is up on the hub if anyone is interested in grabbing it. Details are over in the Carnival Closed Down forum.
