Nikki (and whoever else is interested)
I'm reading the March 24th issue of Rolling Stone right now, and theres an article called "Rock Radio No Longer Rolling," which starts out with the story of Y100. I didn't finish reading it yet (I was excited so I headed right to here), but it makes mention of other now defunct rock station and, apparently, it's a trend. I'm not sure if the article is online, but if not, I can scan it for you.

It is. It's on Y100rocks.com, along with a ton of other articles about the station being killed and it being a trend.

Ahhh, you're so smart. And thanks for that other article - very interesting. I really hate what the world is becoming... the only thing important is money. So sad.

I just got an e-mail from XPN (Philly station from the University Of PA) about Y100rocks. Sounds like great news and I thought some of you might be interested. Still not a proper 7-days-a-week station, but alternative is back on the airin Philly!

I have what may be the most exciting news you hear from XPN all year – beginning August 30, Alternative Rock will have a home on the airwaves in Philadelphia again!

About a year and half ago WPLY 100.3 – Y100 – changed formats and left a significant void in Philadelphia radio. In a major city (and like too many major cities across the United States) there was suddenly no place on the dial to turn for Alternative Rock music. And no place for those musicians to turn to for support.

YRocks.com was then created by Jim McGuinn (former Program director of Y100) to offer fans of the station an alternative way to listen to the Alternative they were missing on the radio. This impressive feat and the devotion of those listeners and the volunteer staff who rocked online for the past year and a half are truly commendable and we’re proud to give them a home – complete with a studio and a couple of desks!

I am happy to announce that on August 30th we will debut YRock On XPN – a 3 nights a week (Wed, Thurs, Fri) program filled with Alt Rock.

Don’t worry about your favorite evening programs. Matt will remain our key weekend host and a significant member of our programming staff. Dan Reed’s prog-rock 70s show will be rescheduled and Robert Drake’s Land of the Lost, 80s alternative show will remain a once a month phenomenon. The rest of XPN will stay the same. We are just bringing a second radio station under our roof.

If you’re curious about what YRock On XPN will sound like, you don’t have to wait until August 30th to find out. The second big announcement today is XPoNentialMusic.org - a brand new online music service from XPN – will debut on August 1 and YRock will be streamed exclusively through us on this new site. Music fans worldwide can now select from a jam-packed menu of podcasts, music streams, recorded live concerts, archived specialty shows (like Sleepy Hollow for those who oversleep), and of course the World Café.

August will be a banner month here on XPN. Now we still have the All About The Music Festival in July, and the voting for the 885 All Time Greatest (I’m not telling yet!) in September and well, you get the picture... So maybe this won’t be the biggest news to come out of XPN all year, after all.

Thanks so much for your support of XPN and for making it possible for us to put Alternative Rock on Alternative radio again!

Roger LaMay

Brutus is an honorable man
It's just coincidence that oil men will wage war in an oil rich land
And this one goes out to my man taking cover in the trenches with a gun in his hand
Then gets home and no one flinches when he can't feed his fam...

But Brutus is an honorable man...
