To me, the whole tone and sound of Suburbia transcends its "meaning" - it has a dream-like quality to it. It is a very personal song, that means something very different to different people. I wouldn't say it's about "non-conformity" exactly, more like a lament on modern day society. Matt does have other, positive things to say - Truffle Pigs is an anthem for personal perseverance, and many of the songs of Beautiful Midnight had "positive messages" i.e. Jenni's Song, Hello Time Bomb.
By the way, has anyone heard the new live version of Symbolistic White Walls - you can download it off the FTP site at . It sounds amazing.
