Working for Arista Records

Post by Joey »

I just got this e-mail  Too bad I don't live in NY .. sounds cool though

Attention: College Students, Professors, and Advisors

Headline: Free Stuff, Great Music, and School Credit. Does life get any better?

Details:
Arista Records, home to a diverse roster of Artists including Avril Lavigne, Adema, Santana, Spiritualized, Grateful Dead, Clipse, Pink and Outkast, seeks energetic college reps that have a passion for music and yearn for a future career in the music industry. Team members will hear new music first while getting hands on experience in all aspects of the music business. This is not a paying job. College intern credit may be available and expenses will be covered. Internet access, personal transportation and at least one year of college remaining are required. Interested applicants should send cover letter and resume to tom.gimbel@bmg.com

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Job Description and Frequently Asked Questions:

I. Brief Job Description:

The primary responsibility of an Arista Street Society member is to increase awareness and excitement for the Arista roster of artists. Team members will be provided with music, promotional materials, detailed objectives, instruction, and support. Each team member will be responsible for utilizing the tools listed above to create awareness-building promotions in their local markets.

II. Examples of Specific Duties and Promotions

Street Marketing - Hand out postcards, stickers, CD samplers, and other provided promotional materials on campus, concert venues, clubs, skate parks, festivals, etc.

Lifestyle Accounts - Set up in-store play and poster displays at cafes, clubs, student centers, dorms, skate shops, hair salons, clothing stores, tattoo shops, etc.

Radio Promotion - Visit local college radio stations to promote play of Arista artists.

Retail Displays - Visit local record stores to check stock on Arista titles, put up merchandising displays (posters, etc.), drop off in-store play copies.

Competitive Concerts - Attend concerts by similar, non-Arista artists. Hand out samplers, stickers, etc. to help increase awareness for Arista acts with fans of like genre artists.

Listening Events - Set up and host album pre-release listening parties at local clubs, bars, restaurants, etc.

III. Feedback

Wrap-ups - Each month, Arista Street Society members will be required to log on to www.aristaU.com to submit "wrap-up" reports of their promotional activities for the month. These reports need to be only a few paragraphs and should require no more than 1-2 hours per month.

Conference Calls - Each month, Arista Street Society members will dial in (toll free) to a national conference call. There will be two call days/times to allow flexibility with class schedules. The upcoming projects and priorities will be reviewed and any questions will be answered. This will be a good opportunity to share ideas and seek suggestions from your fellow Arista Street Team members or..."A.S.S.-es" for short!

IV. Participation

Log In - www.aristaU.com will be your source for information and project details. Each user will have a unique login name and password. Arista will be able to track when and how often each team member is logging in. This will allow us to determine who is participating and who is not. The good news is that each month or two we will run contests (see "Incentives" below) that offer various prizes for Arista Street Society members. Each "log-in" is an "entry" into the monthly contests.... So, the more you participate, the greater your chances to win!

V. Incentives:

Valuable Career Experience - Being an Arista Street Society member is a great addition to your resume. You will gain valuable "real world" experience in marketing and promotion. The experience is especially valuable if you are planning a career in the music industry.

Free Stuff - Arista Street Society members will receive free music, t-shirts, concert tickets, etc. in the monthly materials mailings. (Expect to receive a few boxes each month.)

Contests - Every month or two, we will detail a new contest on www.aristaU.com. Prizes will range from autographed items, Gold and Platinum record plaques, Sony Playstation 2 systems, digital cameras, etc. Entries into the contest will be awarded for monthly wrap-ups that are submitted on time (3 entries), logging into the website (1 entry - Maximum 5 per month), completing the monthly objectives (5 entries) and BONUS entries for your creativity and promotions that go "above and beyond".

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I earn College Internship Credit? - Internship credit is available on a school-by-school basis. It is up to the Arista Street Society member to contact his/her school to determine the requirements. Arista's Human Resource Dept. will review each case and work with the respective schools to provide Internship Credit wherever possible.

Do I get paid? - This is a non-paying internship. Arista Street Society members earn valuable job experience, get advance music and other cool stuff. We will also run incentive contests that offer chances to win cool prizes.

How many hours a week do I have to work? - The position allows flexibility to work within your class and study schedule. A few hours a week should be sufficient to accomplish your monthly objectives. Participation in one of two-month conference calls and submission of bi-weekly recaps are also required. This should only take 1-2 hours of your monthly time.

What if have a marketing idea or know of a great local un-signed band? - We really value your opinions and feedback. If there is a cool band that you like...please send us the demo. If you have an idea about a video, future single selection, imaging, advertising, etc. - PLEASE LET US KNOW VIA E-MAIL, A PHONE CALL, OR VIA YOUR BI-WEEKLY RECAPS.

I love music... but I've never done this before! - No problem, we are here to help answer any questions. No experience is required...just enthusiasm and willingness to work and learn. If you are experienced in marketing and are considering a career in the music industry, we will be happy to help you make the next steps and provide advice and key contacts.

That would be awesome.... The recording industry's what I want to go into, so it would be a good experience (if I was in college). The only thing is... Arista? I don't really care for their artists... and what they look for in music.
boo.

Arista eh? left Pencey was signed to Arista. And then they broke up. Bah.

I'd love a job like that. Unfortunately, I'm in the wrong field! Sometimes I wonder why I'm pursuing a career in science when I feel so much for music. Last night I was told by one of my favourite bands managers that I should be a music manager or scout/agent. Apparently I have "drive and passion" - woohoo! I'd love to go to concerts for a living!
