My OLP covers (Thief and now Superman's Dead)

Postby RileyLewis » 9/20/2014, 9:59 pm

This will be my last post of me playing guitar/singing for a while, don't worry! ;) I don't want to flood the board with these (though I don't think it's in danger of getting too many new posts lately. :p )

I'm 3 weeks into learning guitar now, and the 2nd song I learned is Thief. It was a lot harder than Blister as there are much faster chord changes, and I had to drill it over and over and over. I'll probably tackle Apparitions by Matthew Good next.

My biggest concern at this point is my singing. I've never had any lessons so I don't know how to improve or what I am doing right/wrong. It's also almost impossible to have the acoustic chords match the same pitch (or whatever) as the original songs (since most use electric guitars with various distortions and tuning). This is a problem because I am used to singing a certain way to the recorded songs, but now I have to sing higher or lower depending on the arrangement on the acoustic guitar! Kind of annoying.

Anyway, here is the video! Let me know what you think, whether positive or negative!

I like it. Feel free to post what you want of your playing. You can start a thread over in the Undress Your Soul section and just continue adding new videos if you'd like.

I didn't enjoy that as much as the other two. Do you have the actual Clumsy tab book? I was disappointed that you didn't invite us all to sing along with you in the middle. That would have been cover song comedy gold. The song came together at the end, though. I'm interested to see your Matt Good covers when you get them going.

Yeah I was just using simplified chords.

Here's me doing a cover of Matt Good doing a cover of Josh Ritter's A Girl in the War:

And then Can't Get Shot in the Back if You Don'y Run, by Matthew Good:

Awesome. Try singing some country. I think it would work with your voice.

Here's Strange Days by Matthew Good Band. I love the chord progression in this song.
