But we thought we were going to get a burn burn part 2 when we heard of a new album after that. So you never know

That is true. Many say that curve is closer to BB then any other album, which i do think is partially true... but it sounds like an evolution of BB to me... much in the way that I felt each of the first 4 albums were an evolution of the previous one. Oddly enough, Gravity, HIPT, and BB don't really sound like evolutions of any previous work (to me). So It would be nice if this next album was a further evolution of curve... further distancing it from the BB sound and further developing what curve did that made it so different from BB. While curve will never be my favorite album, I think its a solid album, and if they could continue to take that to the next level...

Curve was a solid enough album, but it's the type of album that fits best between a few great albums. As a highpoint it doesn't meet the requirements, I think. It's a Star Wars: Episode III compared to the original trilogy, if you will.

I think the album could have been quite memorable if a few cut songs had been included, such as Warnings and Grocery List. They definitely had a creepier vibe to them that I think the final album was lacking. OLP the last few records seems to be playing it safe, where they record some really different stuff but then cut it for release and go with safer, more regular-sounding tracks. Or in the case of The Wolf, they take a song that worked well and change it. Not to say I don't enjoy Fire in the Henhouse, but hopefully it wasn't changed because they were afraid it was too similar a song to Heavyweight (heavier rock track). Because the album was pretty short (last few have been in general) and rather than change songs they should be adding a few in. Not sure why they are aiming for fewer and fewer songs.

My other favourite artist has been doing the same (Matthew Good), with his last album being only 9 tracks. Now in his case you could argue you get a lot more for your money because the songs themselves are usually 5-6 minutes in length. But one thing I like that Matthew is doing on his current upcoming album is making a straight uptempo rock record. He's going back to his roots after a few albums of more experimental and different stuff. From the studio clips it sounds like it's paying off big time. I hope OLP does something similar in the next album and kind of unchain themselves a bit. Lately they've been thinking too much about it and from the studio clips it seems like they take a committee approach to songs, which tends to mellow and mainstream them out.

Curve had some great guitar solos, but the songs themselves were fairly predictable, especially the drumming, which was disappointing compared to what Jeremy used to put in. Curve was a decent record compared to the previous few, but I hope for more from the next.

Duncan, Jeremy, and Steve have been playing together in Toronto for the last week or so, putting ideas together.

According to this interview...Raine told that the album is largely finished in terms of demos being recorded, the next step is to find the right producer! I'm really excited! Maybe at the end of 2014 we can have a new album? Maybe i'm too optimistic hahahah :D

I found the interview interesting about why he likes doing New Year's shows.

Something else caught my eye.
"Our Lady Peace has played two casinos in its two-decade run, one of which was an outdoor show. The group really enjoyed performing at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas. It’s hard to say no to venues that boast such nice, new setups."

They've definitely played more than 2 shows in casinos over their 2 decade career. I saw them in 2002 at Trump Marina in Atlantic City (not a nice venue). Anyone else see them in a casino?

Looking back, they played Las Vegas in 2009 at the Rio-All Suite and Casino, 2006 at Casino Regina, 2003 Palms Hotel in Las Vegas and Reno Hilton in Reno, 2002 at Trumps in Atlantic City, 2001 HOB (inside Mandalay Bay Resort) in Las Vegas, 1999 HOB, and The Joint (inside Hard Rock) in Las Vegas, all stand out as casino venues. So 9 venues that I can count from their tour history.

It's a little too quiet.

So they canceled the acoustic tour, and then ???

Wish we could get an update. even if its just to say that the band is to busy to work on stuff right now.

Only updates I've heard is Jeremy doing several drum clinics throughout the rest of the month, and Raine/Chantal are scheduled to be presenters at this year's Juno's.

It seems (like you can see on the home page at CM.net) that the new producer will be Mike Elizondo...that is totally unknown for me but i read that is a producer famous for collaborations with Eminem, Dr. Dre and Maroon 5 (that aren't my genre)...well it scares also me!

Based on his past bands, this Mike Elizondo guy sounds more like a bob rock than a arnold lanni. I was really hoping they'd stick with Jason Lader, as I felt like he steered the band in a really good direction. I was almost certain he was going to stick with them :(.

Well, without being a huge fan of Mike's previous work, it is a little unfair to make too many speculations. I just hope that the band keeps down the experimental track and we get things more like Rabbit and less like AFAYC. Really excited. Hope they leak some tunes soon.

After that tweet there was another:
"#exciting#creative musical day in studio with Mike Elizondo!!! Feel like we're on the verge of something incredibly different and inspiring!"

I think that we need to stay quiet...we will see in the next months what direction OLP will take! I'm the first that want that OLP will regain international success but i don't want that the band will choose again the wrong direction...however also i'm a little afraid...we need only to wait...in OLP we trust! :-D

That's my take too. I feel like, after the creative plunge they took with Curve, there is no way in hell they are going to pull back into a mainstream sound like they had before. I cant wait for this album. Wonder if we'll see it prior to 2015.
