One of the best things about OLP and, in this case, Raine is that they can turn a pretty good song into something even more amazing, even years after initial release. Did you guys see this rendition of 'Innocent'? Holy shit. Easily one of the best versions, ever.

Downloaded the album last night. As with most OLP/Raine stuff I fell in love with it pretty quickly! Big criticism of it is just about it's brevity. It needs a couple more tracks to feel more like a complete album.

As I downloaded it, I have no album sleeve. The last solo album used a drumming machine. This one seems to be human (and much better(, any idea if Raine drummed himself or who drummed on the album?

Oh DG, I agree re: that version of Innocent. Such a beautiful version of the song.

Well i think that Pachamama I and II are parts of the album...then the album is longer...but you're right probably 10 songs would be good...

I'm pretty sure a drum machine was used on atleast a handful of tracks. Sounds like it anyway.

Likely Randy Cooke if it wasn't a drum machine.

I got my physical copy in the mail today. I was correct, Randy Cooke did provide drums. I had my first chance to listen to the album today. Really really like Not Done Yet. I also loved the use of horns on some of the tracks. Really well done. And agreed with everyone else, a really great vocal performance overall.

Unfortunately, no lyrics were provided in the booklet. Lots of photocopied receipts, however!

The trumpet, and whatever other brass is used, works so perfectly in this album.

Yes! It's not over done or just thrown in there. It all works in just the right places.

I got the album in the mail last week. I think the vocals are the best he's had in years. However, i think i enjoyed the variety of the first album a little more. This one is a little more uniform in its structure, and i like the variety of sounds on the first one. Still solid, if not a little short... but as others have said, when you factor in the free 6 songs he gave us prior to its release, I don't think its a problem.

I also don't care for rising tide. The recycled lyric rubs me the wrong way. I suppose he's saying it with a different message, but I feel like as an artist, he should have reached deeper.

Why does rainemaida.net say there are "limited edition bundles" available from Rhino Records? Seems like they only have the standard CD not bundled with anything -- am I missing something?

Also, I hope the limited vinyl release that was mentioned at some point will be available to purchase online, and not a Record Store Day exclusive a year later like Curve was! I like RSD in theory, but in practice I've only ever really been interested in releases that weren't available near me.

I think it comes with the mp3 version, and an immediate download of Montreal, according to the fine print.

Hmm, well at least that's a bundle but it doesn't sound very "limited" haha. Unless the physical CD itself is a limited run. :Johnathan:

Maybe it's this??? We All Get Lighter (vinyl bundle)

Includes:

Standard vinyl with Download card (Limited Edition Vinyl)
"Montreal" MP3, sent within 24 hours
"How To Kill A Man" MP3, sent within 24 hours
Limited Edition autographed print

Limited to only 35 units!

I am assuming the autographed print is limited to 35 units and the vinyl itself perhaps is less limited, but who knows.

I finally got around to getting this.

I think my favourite song is the first one, by far. It has a really nice atmosphere to it. I also prefer my originally interpretation of the chorus: "The surest way to live is to kill a man," hah.

The only songs I skip entirely are #2 and #8. #2 sounds so much like one of the songs from The Hunter's Lullaby to the point that it is distracting, and it also lacks a good hook (the same with the last song). Montreal and SOS are the clear single type songs, and they are good, if not fantastic. Overall it's a solid if short CD. But I do like the variety of sounds, even if it's slightly on the soft side for me. I hope some of this creative (and also very moody) sound creeps into the next OLP album.
