Album meaning: SM

Futurist author Ray Kurzweil, who writes about AI (artificial intelligence) and its place in human society wrote a book named Spiritual Machines. Kurzweil suggests that the AI machines will "embody human qualities, claim to be human, and we will believe them." Mike Turner suggested they'de name the album after the book

Have you guys ever heard of songmeanings.net? There's a lot of discussions like this. Check it out, search up OLP, and then go to the songs from there. Some are really good, and some have like three comments saying, "This song rox" and stuff.

I had always taken Clumsy to have a, "I can't help you until you help yourself" meaning.

It really does not matter what is said or not said. The lyrics are still open for interpatation.. There are two OLP songs I love dearly. Both mean alot to me and i have no clue what either one is truly aout. I like it that way. Sure there are a few lines in each one Itranslate to what it means to me, but as for the whole song. No clue. I never really want to know what they are about cause it is not anywhere close to what I get from it I can never listen to them the same again.

years ago I read an interview with Madonna( I believe) and she was talking about a recent interview she read of Sting. Where he said one of his biggest songs was inspired while he was in the bathroom. She then went on to say I hate for people to find out some song I wrote came to me while I was on the toilet.

The only thing I know that is true of Raine is he writes from experiences in his life. He never really says what a song is about. Bits here and there but as I said before he likes people to take away from the lyrics what they will..

For me the most meaningful OLP song is by far, Thief. I have a friend whose 2 year old daughter has stage 4 neuroblastoma (diagnosed in 2009), and this has renewed my amazing amount of respect and love for Thief. The lyrics are some of the best I've ever heard in any song, and Raine's vocal tendencies work perfectly with the song, particularly when he sings "away" in the line "This will not go away". It just forces the power of the lyric that much more. I can get lost in that song like no other. His voice there in combination with the instrumental is just amazing. Especially in the A Decade remixed version from 2006, I love what they did with it (however subtle).

Oh, I've listened to these songs a million times, and there's definitely a difference. Only subtle differences though, and no new addition, just overall changes of the vocals/instrumental. There are also differences in 4AM and One Man Army on A Decade. Listen with headphones or on a nice loud stereo system and you'll notice.

All of the songs from the first 4 albums were remastered for A Decade, so there are extremely subtle differences to the sound, more obvious differences to the loudness of the tracks, but no significant differences to the recordings and instrumentation.

3 tracks were remixed: 4am with different instrumentation, the spoken bit was added at the beginning of Life over the instrumental bit that was previously used in the music video for the song. One Man Army, if I remember correctly the stereo panning on some elements were reversed along with some other minor changes
