Clumsy/Spiritual Machines Tour

This is for you, this is for us...

Postby MindsOnLoan » 12/14/2010, 7:05 pm

@Locobone, it was probably posted around this time because this past Sunday was the 10th anniversary of the album.

Excellent piece. One of the few OLP articles that I've read that I wasn't saying "That's not the way it happened at all!" or "False" in my head throughout it. I get annoyed when articles pretty much say unquestionably that Clumsy is the best and the favorite, and that Burn Burn/AYD is a return to their old sound. Glad they acknowledge how strongly we feel about Spiritual Machines.

They must not have liked Duncan, for they kept giving him shit about thinning hair.

His hair isn't thinning that much at all.

Just realized that the infamous MONTREAL CLUB CRAWL SHOW was around this time 10 years ago( Dec 13th). That was closing night of the tour. That was the longest they played( till this tour). They did 28 songs 10 of them were in the encore. They played 3 covers that night. They just kept playing. It was special. Sadly so it never appeared anywhere in recording. That would of been something. That was an amazing show. What was even more incredible is that a few guys were playing sick..Here is the setlist. I had to go to olp.cc to look it up.

Intro-Ray/Molly
Middle Of Yesterday
Right Behind You-(Mafia)
In Repair
Are You Sad
Junkee
Made To Heal
If You Believe
Life
Car Crash
Julia
Automatic Flowers
Superman's Dead
OMA
Naveed
Carnival
Thief-dedicated to Robert Taylor (a fan who was in a coma, but out now)
Clumsy
Stealing Babies

Encores:
4 am
Imagine
Tomorrow Never Knows
Birdman
Hope
Eternal Life
Waited
Super Satellite
Anybody Home
Starseed

“Music doesn’t have the power to change the world. What music does is it changes people, & that changes the world, so to say that music doesn’t change people anymore is just ridiculous. It does everyday. It doesn’t have to be on a political or social level. You could be feeling shitty & it makes you happy & if that’s all it does, it’s changing the world. It’s making it a better place.” ~ Raine Maida

I hope someday I too can hear them play Julia, Thief, and Supersatellite. Especially Thief. I really don't understand why they don't play that one instead of 4am half the time.

And that show would be longer than anything on the Clumsy/SM tour too. Unless you're counting the long break between sets!

I thought they did about 90 minutes with the 2nd half and about 1 hour with first half of those shows.

With seeing the Clumsy/SM tour I finally got to see All My Friends, The Wonderful Future, Big DUmb Rocket, Story Of 100 Aisles done live.. I am one of the lucky ones to see almost all the songs recorded perform live and a few non recorded ones or early versions done live..

Only songs I have not seen( in person) or heard in a soundcheck live are
Under Zenith,Is It Safe, Annie, Made Of Steeel,( heard in a soundcheck once) Sell My SOul, Sorry, Apology, DOn't Stop, Better then here,Refuge, Never Get Over YOu. WHite Flag, Signs of Life, Right Stuff, TImbBomb. I know alo tof the Burn Burn stuff was done during the busk and earlier shows..

I think it would be realy cool if the band reissued Naveed for 2014( 20th year of released) with extras. They have to have early demos somewhere in the vaults. Then do a tour for it. Just a suggestion. That would be cool.

They need to bring back SuperSatelite or Dirty Walls to the live set. Those songs rocked. Julia was really great to see live. I think SM tour was the last time done live..

YOu never k,now though Josh. They have been bringing back some older songs before the Clumsy/SM tour. Hope, and Denied were brought back. One can hope though. I want to see Blister( even part) just once again.

There's a soundcheck recording of Julia (no vocals) from 2006 but it's a very sketchy version, mostly just the main guitar riff played slowly and some drums.

The Clumsy/SM shows ran about 1 hr 55 mins to 2 hr 5 mins depending on the show, that's including the encore break but not including the break between main sets. Club Soda surely would've ran longer at 28 songs, especially with a lot of the potentially longer tracks (Car Crash, Naveed, Stealing Babies closing the main set, Tomorrow Never Knows, Birdman, Hope, and Eternal Life).

In the last couple days i went back to hear the Clumsy/Spiritual Machines stuff that i got on 12 of OLPness(11...we had misfortune because i know that the 12th day would have been great), but before the live i heard the studio version...

Clumsy it's not near at the studio in the various part where there isn't the falsetto(in studio Raine's voice sounds paranoid naturally in the good sense), but however it's really good and the band make a good work.

Spiritual it's really near to the studio because the Raine's voice it's a little bit different from the previous three albums. Especially In Repair that sounds equal to the studio version.

However i can't wait for the official recording of this tour to hear with a high quality the songs...

I think that the band made a good work and i wish that this will be transmitted on the new album, i think that the way that they taken it's right, Warnings sounds like a SM song...

P.S This version of Car Crash it's amazing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-aUdSw3Ev0
Raine's improvisation makes me chill...
