Corey wrote:Actually, that would be a huge help. I haven't even touched drums yet. I don't think drum tabs are as easy to find as guitar tabs. I think the easiest thing to do would be to break it down to quarterbeats? You tell me, actually. Keep in mind, you generally have 2 cymbols (yellow and green), 2 snair? (red and blue) and the kick pedal to play with.

And yes, I'm looking for the notes for the vocals. I'm transcribing right now using my tool actually. I actually discovered that it is easier to take an entire phrase into the FFT, rather than one word at a time. This will give you 2-4 peaks that should represent all of the notes in that verse. Then I just have to figure out the correct order which I think can be done by just singing to yourself and hearing where the tone goes up and down.

Again, I'm not a musician, so I'm just winging it.

D'oh.

I just realized I own the guitar tab book for the Clumsy album, and it includes a line for vocals. This should be a big help for you. I'm uploading my scans of it now and will PM you the link.

I seem to recall on older OLP albums (not sure about the new ones), I think all instruments are tuned approximately 1/4 step down which could make it difficult to match Raine's singing to an actual note in the A=440Hz system. You may need to transcribe all of the music either up or down 1/2 step to match the pitch more closely to the recorded version -- or maybe the tabs are already the closest match.

As for the drum tabs, on the easy modes breaking it down to quarterbeats would be the simplest approach, but personally I would start by tabbing out the complete drum parts and then remove beats to derive the simpler versions. I could help -- does it need to be made as a midi file? I don't have any music transcription software for doing that right now. Is that something I could use the tool you're working on to do if you send me a copy of the tool?

SWEET! Thanks a lot.

My tool isn't quite polished enough where I'm comfortable giving it out yet. When it's ready, I'll let you know. In the meantime, you can use Feedback (http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7466). It's a tool designed for creating RB and GH charts. RB has a kick pedal instead of a 5th color, so I would just have to look what color corresponds from GH to RB. Or if you are more comfortable with making a midi, use something like Anvil (http://www.anvilstudio.com/). RBN even has their own plugins for Reaper (http://creators.rockband.com/spec/Main_Page) but it all seems over my head.

We just need to make sure we are working off of the same BPM.

Question: Do you have RockBand for Wii or some other console?

Maybe an instrumental version for Rockband that allows singing.

But I don't what your aiming for tho either.

If you want some voiceless tracks, I got a few in the download section.

That could work as long as you have a vocals track as well.

Haha, yeah I definitely knew about RAWK SD, didn't mention it because I do not personally own a Wii. It would also be much better for the band to come into the platform on their own accord. I mean, they get $0 if I get their songs on RAWKSD, but if they go for RBN or through HMX, they at least get something.

Anyways, I can't really help out with charting, however I will definitely be up for some chart review. I'm an avid RB addict, with a pretty great understanding of how things are typically charted (drum and vocal wise), also if these were charted with a bit of a glance at the RBN docs, it would be pretty great.

I'll personally go over whatever is transcribed into drums. I have RB setup up using my electronic drumset, so that helps a fair bit.

for Expert drumcharts, things typically try to stay as close to the following as possible (if and when exceptions come up, I'll do my best to explain them)

Red-Snare or 16th note hi-hat (see Run To The Hills, Everlong, The Hand That Feeds, etc.) this is done to preserve "natural" sticking

Yellow- Hi-hat or high tom

Blue- Ride cymbal, splash cymbal, open hi-hat note, or mid tom

Green- Low and/or floor tom, crash cymbal, and on the rare occasion hi-hat (see Battery)
Orange- Bass pedal
Every line I've crossed has come undone, everything I know is somehow wrong.

I just downloaded Feedback and it seems very difficult to use (no mouse interface and seems hard to sync to the recording).

Corey, if you can send me a midi or chart file that is all synced up with the correct BPM and offset I can work from that to tab out the drums. In the meantime maybe I'll start tabbing out the part by hand.

I only have Rockband for XBox 360 but don't play often. Myron's info is right on for drum mapping. I think I'll put the mini timbales (or whatever they are) onto yellow/blue until the other drums kick in, and then try to accomodate them on blue / green.

Yeah, Feedback is the only charting software I know of and it's pretty good, but a little tricky to use like you said. That's why I wrote my own.

I'm getting somewhat used to using Anvil which isn't too bad (hey it's free!). If you can figure out Reaper, great, but I found it a bit overwhelming. I'll send you the Midi later today with the guitar charted for you to work against.

The vocals are almost done. There are just subtle nuances like verses and overdrive I have to work out. The music sheets really got the ball rolling.

Well, if they release songs for DLC, I will definitely buy them. Until then, this is my only option.

Hey I have a question about this which relates to another Rockband 2 project of mine. Do you have Rockband 2 for XBox 360 and if so, does it require a dongle to work wirelessly or is that only for the Wii and PS3?

Nothing's required for wireless connection for the drums.

Nope. Just press the little "X" button thingy and it automatically connects. No extra stuff is required for any instruments besides the mic which you just have to plug in.

So I have hooked up the guitar on Expert and Hard for Clumsy and they both play really well! I'm very happy with them. May need some minor tweaks, but overall pretty good. I have the lyrics transcribed but can't seem to get them into the game yet. Keeps locking up on me. =( Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Looking forward to getting the drums in there. Also trying to figure out what I'm going to do about bass. Probably takes some of the guitar tabs (the ones I didn't use on guitar) and see how it fits.

Yeah, I probably will do that when I get some time. I think I need to amp up the audio a little more on the song too. Man do I wish I had the masters. I still have to add overdrive too.
