Raine Added to CASBY lineup in Toronto...
Toronto ON from Lorraine Zarb
102.1 the Edge, Canada's largest and most influential new rock station, is pleased to announce the addition of Raine Maida from Our Lady Peace to the 2007 CASBY Music Awards (Canadian Artists Selected By You) lineup. Maida will perform two acoustic songs from his debut solo album. The CASBYs take place on October 24 at the Kool Haus in Toronto and feature performances by CASBY nominees Sum 41, Matthew Good, Finger Eleven, ill Scarlett, The Operation M.D. and Attack in Black.
A member of the multi-platinum band Our Lady Peace and a political activist (Make Poverty History, War Child Canada), Maida will release his first full-length solo album The Hunter's Lullaby on Tuesday, November 13, fuelled by the first single Yellow Brick Road.
The CASBYs will be hosted by Alan Cross, program director of 102.1 the Edge, and creator, producer, writer and host of Corus Radio's nationally syndicated program The Ongoing History of New Music. The highly-rated program has been on the Edge for more than a decade and is the longest-running music documentary feature in the country.
CASBY performances will be broadcast live on 102.1 the Edge throughout the night but the only way to attend the show is to win tickets from the station. Representing the best in Canadian new rock, CASBY winners are chosen entirely by fans. Other 2007 nominees include: Tokyo Police Club, Billy Talent, Young Galaxy, The Tragically Hip and more. Fans can vote on www.edge.ca for this year's Favourite New Artist, Single, Album and the NXNE Favourite New Indie Release until Sunday, September 30 at midnight.
The CASBY Music Awards began in 1981 as an alternative to the Juno Awards and were originally called the U-Knows. Through initiatives like the CASBYs, as well as Edgefest and Bookie's Nu Music Night, 102.1 the Edge has earned a reputation as a major force in Canadian talent development, contributing to the commercial breakthrough of some of Canada's most influential artists, including the Barenaked Ladies, Sum 41, The Tragically Hip and Our Lady Peace.
