Am I the only one who likes "Life"? Spiritual Machines, overall, was a brilliant record. Yes, even "Life," as poppy as it was.
It amazes me that Spiritual Machines never saw any commercial success and is often passed as a bad record or the point at which the band started going downhill. I think people refer equally to both lack of sales and assumptions based on one single.
I also have no problem with Our Lady Peace going pop-rock. None of their records really sound the same and even Gravity and Healthy in Paranoid Times have a handful of really good songs...I just hate generic songwriting/melodies. And that's been a problem that's been infiltrating itself through the last two OLP records. I don't include Gravity because as polished as it sounded, Raine's vocals were solid and every track had a good hook. As pop-rock songs, all the tracks on Gravity stood out. Meanwhile, we have "All You Did Was Save My Life" on Burn Burn that sounds too much like "Where Are You?"...
