Escape Artist- "That songs really about... well, not a ghost persay, but someone who acts like a ghost, you know? I think we all have people in our lives that you think you're close to, but then you realize "Wow, I really don't even know this person." You know, and I think that it could be a relationship that's lost or a friend that gets off track, and it's just kind a... I don't know if it ends up being a really positive thing. It's really just about trying to describe that situation where it's like, "Man, I thought I knew you but I guess I didn't." And sometimes that's just a reality as well. It's like you-... I think that anyone who has any kind of spirituality in them, you always think you can fix things, you know? Whether it's bringing someone to your yoga class or whatever you know, or like trying to get them to eat better. Some people are just different and sometimes you just gotta accept that."
Annie- Obviously about a girl who gets picked on, and fantasizes about their deaths. Three weeks after the lyrics were finished, the Columbine and Taber school shootings happened, to which Raine told the band, "'Guys, the song Annie is written exactly about this."
The Wonderful Future- "That song's about building the perfect human - this cyber-human - and realizing that you can't really compete."
If You Believe- "That song's about having an out-of-body experience and seeing that the afterlife is real," Maida confirms, "and telling people that there's something machines can't have, and we've got it."
In Repair- "The lyrics for the track ‘In Repair’ focus upon how people tend to treat each other as machines in our day-to-day life. We really need to take stock and focus our energy towards those in our lives that matter. Sometimes it seems as if we need an oil change."
Life- That song to me was such a simple premise. It's really about positive energy. Everybody deals with simple things that get people down, like money problems. You just have to deal with stuff and turn any negative energy into positive energy. That's the way to get through life."
