OLP 30: Sound The Alarm

Postby DG » 9/20/2024, 7:11 pm

I missed coming here and saw that a new song released and thought of here. I wish the internet didnt get so small for me, and I stopped coming here, compared to now where i just check reddit and maybe two social medium platforms. If anyone is still hanging around, any thoughts on the new song? I like the song musically, but idk about lyrically. Feels a bit generic. But I'm still glad they are still putting out music 30 years later.

Edit: And I hope all those who may or may not still wander through here the best. This was one of my favorite forums to visit. Agreeing or disagreeing.

Dylan! Always welcome here. I commented about the new song over on OLP's Discord this morning. This track feels like it fell right out of Healthy In Paranoid Times. It's like a mix of Walking In Circles, and Vampires. The sound and production has that same feel to it. I would probably agree that lyrically it's not that strong, and seems very straightforward. Maybe lyrically it's closer to Gravity.

All the best to you as well!

Hey, Matt! Glad you still have this place going!

I didn't even hear that originally, but it definitely has a Healthy vibe going for it, especially compared to Walking in Circles.

Originally, I felt that I heard too many similar or repeated lines that they like to use early on in in this song. But I do think it does get better as it progresses. I'm only a on a few re-listens, tho.

I lost a lot of OLP fan communication when my facebook got deleted for some reason that they still can't explain.

I suck at working discord, I should get around to it. Get back into the fold.

Definitely agree, it's a good song but not their best, but that's ok! I'm still enjoying everything they put out.

Hope all you folks are well too. I still haven't gotten the hang of discord. I think I'm too old to learn new platforms :P

Saw they just released "I wanna be your drug" today, and gotta admit I much preferred "The Fix" (still listen to the clumsy monkey recording on Youtube!), a bit like how I prefer "The Wolf" over "Fire in the Henhouse", is it a case that they're overworking stuff?

Was disappointed to see them use AI for the video promoting the new song, too - had thought as artists that they'd want to support other artists (and also not do stuff that's bad for the environment), and then was further disappointed to see a bit of a defensive response telling everyone to "chill" rather than just acknowledge the concerns.

I'm going to go in the other direction. I think this is a beautiful progression from The Fix. I love The Fix, and think it's a great song. I think this blows it away, and it definitely blows Sound The Alarm away. IWBYD has me excited to hear new music now. I don't think this song was overworked, I think they took something really good and made it great. I bet the sound of it will fit the overall context of their next album, in the same way that Fire In The Henhouse fit Curve, better than The Wolf did. As for the use of AI, it's testing the waters, and if nothing, a tongue in cheek reference to Spiritual Machines.

Nice to see the community active guys!
I couldn't remember the name of the song and yeah it was "The Fix" finally hahahaha. I was really bothered the entire day cause I couldn't remember it.
Anyway, I like both songs (sound the alarm intro reminds me love and trust too much), but yeah I wonder if they know that people remember "The Fix", it sounds a bit lazy to me making it looking like a new song when basically it isn't, but I am happy that in whatever shape or form we got to see it released.

I guess now we'll get another with vol 3 and then? Band hasn't been really clear if there are plans for a record

I think both are great. Awesome video for STA, too. For me, if you split the band into two eras, this is the best they’ve sounded in the studio on the latter end. Great energy and approach to vocals.

I loved the groove in The Fix and still hope it eventually releases (vault), but this time I think they nailed the revision. I believe they’ve said there will be a full album.
