I think that's Duncan doing the backing falsetto.

I'd also like to add that having a lossless option for downloads on Pledge is pretty sweet too!

Yeah, I was happy to see that! Figured I'd have to buy a 2nd copy somewhere else for lossless (if it would even be available anywhere).

It looks like they've quietly added themselves to Bandcamp at some point in the last few years, so now Won't Turn Back is finally available in lossless quality as well:

Little preview of "Hiding Place for Hearts". That is some amazing piano.

Also side note- should we make a new thread since we officially have a new album date and name. And it's almost out.

Thoughts on "Spiritual Machines Acoustic Live"? I love the ethereal feel, the atmosphere of the music, the production of the instrumental track... but I gotta say Raine's frankly shoddy vocal work almost ruins the songs for me. Maybe I'm being harsh, but it feels like he's either not trying or has just lost that spark. He's lost a lot of the natural flow in his singing voice, it sounds so awkwardly staccato. I'm assuming he picked this up from doing spoken-word. And except for a few select moments, he also seems afraid to embrace the falsetto, an obstacle I thought he was past by now. But it isn't the falsetto I need - his Gravity voice would also sound great on this.

It used to be the opposite, his original voice MADE these songs! Especially on SM, so it's really apparent when it's not up to snuff performing the songs on SM.

I think the sad truth is that his original vocal style was unbelievably exhausting.
Take this performance of 'life' and tell me that singing like this on the daily wouldn't become exhausting.

True... and as I said I wouldn't have minded a Gravity era vocal, although maybe that's just as difficult. But to me it just seems shoddy in execution, period. Sounds like a rough draft rather than a final version.

I don't know about you but I really enjoyed the acoustic version of Life on the new album. Raine's voice sounds more laid back now, but it really works with the acoustic style on that song. Life really deserves to be a regular in the OLP playlist. In my view, it's as good of a pop anthem as Innocent is but it gets 1/100 as much love by the band probably because Raine still has nightmares of hacking up his lungs after he sang it the old way. Maybe the bands more recent memories of the song will mean that we will get to hear it more often now.

I know it's been speculated but Raine just confirmed on a AMA that Mike Turner is on the new record. Also next single a song called RUN or Holes.

Great to hear official confirmation that Mike's back!! Love the cover art too... finally Saul Fox is back for an official studio album!

Fuck yeah Mike is back! Can't wait to hear him play with Steve.

I do wonder what capacity Mike will be returning in though, since it shows him as being featured on Track 11, which seems like it may be a Ray Kurzweil excerpt rather than a full song. I assume that's the only track he's featured in since it explicitly states he's featured on it.

Here's the track listing:

1. RK1.Age of Spiritual Machines
2. Stop Making Stupid People Famous
3. Holes
4. RK2.Consciousness
5. The Message
6. Wish You Well
7. RK3.UBI
8. Future Disease
9. 19 Days
10. Run
11. RK4.Escape Velocity ft. EMTEE
12. Simulation
13. Good Die Young
14. RK5.Turing Test
15. Temporary Healing

Is there a way to hear a demo or early recordings of Good Die Young?

I think it's pretty great that Raine and Mike have reconnected and that Mike is included in one way or another on the album.

Agree. It's especially cool what Raine said about Mike when asked about it on the Reddit.com AMA:

"Spiritual Machines 2 [wouldn't] be right without Mike involved"
