I don't know if they happen from where you are all from (there should be regional or provincals in canada) but I was at a youth parliment session a little while ago and this was the subject of one of the resolutions.
I have to say that I am likely the most bias person that will have this opinion here because I have a step-sister that is a lesbian and my Dad is a lawyer for a case involving priests suxually abusing kids. So I have a lot of "experience"
To be honest, I don't think that same sex marrage should be legalized. Right now, there is such a pressure on people to be politically correct that its hard to find anyone that is admitingly homophobic in general society. But that isnt what peoples actual opinions are. A lot of people in older generations were taught that this is wrong. And its hard to think otherwise. And if that is part of someones belifes its going to be hard for them to change it. My point is that there is such a push on this right now that half the country wants same sex marrages to be legalized! and the other half has an opinion that isnt being herd. I think this needs to stop being a pop-culture issue before it can be concidered serious.
The other thing that was brought up in the artical and in my youth parliment is the idea of polygamy and incest. That is so far fetched it isn't funny. I really think its a cover for people to oppose this proposition without sounding homophobic. But that isn't my point. The thing is, the reason same sex marriges is being concidered is because same sex relationship have become socially acceptable and we want to grant people that right. If you haven't noticed, polygamy and incest are not even slightly socially acceptable! There is a small city in BC that has a record for polygamy. Did anyone know that at random? Not many because it isnt even accepted in the media. The idea that same-sex marriges will lead to polygamy completly ridiculous. We did grow to accept homosexuality but polygamy is essentially a human rights violation and that is not acceptable. As for incest, is also pretty far fetched concidering its become a social "jerry springer" joke. I also believe (not positive) that there are studies that prove genetic mutations and birth defects to children of incestual couples. How can something that is proven to be dangerious like that become legal? Same sex marrige can be argued that it isnt hurting anyone. Incest would be.

Whether love occurs between a man and a woman or 2 women or 2 men .. meh, who are we to say whether it's right or wrong? As long as it's a healthy relationship and they're happy, it's no different then a man and a woman getting married.

what i always wondered is, why do people even care? As long as both are happy and of legal age and giving consent, who cares? I don't have to live with another man, so how does it effect me? What i think is that deep sown people just pretend not to be homophobic, the real reason they dont' want it is because they find it offensive to see a gay couple, or live near one. that's the truth the way i see it. Live and let live is teh way i see it, and it's fairly obvious that these people did not choose to be this way seeing as how no one in their right mind woudl do something so socially devastating to themselves just for kicks. So i spose if you believe in god you also have to believe god made them this way. So as i said before live and let live

Unfortunately, the people I've talked to who have religious beliefs all see homosexuality as a DECISION to "give in to temptation", and are in fact purposely going against God's will by not restraining themselves and behaving heterosexually. Of course, I think that's a total crock - if homosexuality were a choice, we wouldn't have teenagers hanging themselves instead of facing the act of telling their parents.
