Anarchy vs. The State

Postby christa lynn » 9/21/2002, 9:41 pm

Alright, I'm in debate club and I'm thinking about doing an Anarchy vs. The State (ie organized government) debate. So all you anarchists (and anti-anarchists) give me point by point why your side is better.

The thing about anarchy is that there're too many "punk rawk" kids who say they're anarchists simply because they think it comes with the deal. They may not even necessarily know what the fuck it really means.

Good point. It's kind of sad how these "punk rawkerz" take on the rebellious persona just because they think it's rebellious...

Sure, the government's fucked up. But anarchy would never work. We'd all be dead in a matter of days.

anarchy.

the axiom of self ownership entitles us to certain natural rights. the most significant of these is the right not to have coercive force used against us.

the state, by it's very existence, violates this fundamental right.

Sample conversation with my anarchist friend:

Me: "So... what happens if somebody kills your brother? There'd be nobody to arbiter justice."

Her: "So? You just buy a gun and kill him."

"And this would somehow make it all okay?"

"Well, there wouldn't be any government to fuck it up, so... yeah."

"Great, then everybody'd be buying guns and shooting each other everytime somebody pissed them off, just because they can."

"No, because people aren't like that. We'd figure out a way to work it all out."

"We already have. It's called government."

the state. ever read conrad's 'heart of darkness?' well it sucked, i wouldn't reccomend it. but it was a perfect example of what happens when there is no state controlling things. some radical asshole takes charge and does crazy things and everyone else are his sheep. its a similar scenario in 'Lord of the Flies.' with no adults to be there government, the kids go do crazy shit and it all goes to hell.

and yeah the state's not perfect. but i don't know any people that are either, so why should something created by people for people be any different?

jesus crist i can't belive that i still have that damn school song memorized. that's what happens when you don't have a school band and the football team has to lead everyone to sing our school song.
