Busking For Change
War Child Canada is pleased to announce that on Thursday October 2, 2008 many of Canada’s finest musicians will take to the streets of Toronto to busk in support of War Child Canada.
Busking For Change was inspired by Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace, who spent twelve hours busking for War Child Canada on the streets of Toronto last October. While publicising his solo album, The Hunter’s Lullaby, and filming the music video for the album’s first single, Raine raised an astonishing $22,000 for War Child Canada’s School Rehabilitation and Revitalization Project in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He personally topped up enough to build what is now called the Abala School.
Beginning at 8:00 am until 8:00 pm on October 2nd, celebrated Canadian artists will follow Raine’s lead and will scatter across the city performing on major street corners, in parks and in building atriums. These amazing artists will be on a mission to inspire people to donate generously to War Child Canada, through donations collected at each site, as well as online donations, which can be made HERE. All proceeds will help to provide urgently needed assistance to children around the world whose lives have been affected by war.
On the same day students from across Canada will be busking at their schools and in their communities to support the cause. Whether you’re an experienced performer or an enthusiastic amateur, anyone can get involved. Register your school’s event today and start raising online donations. War Child Canada is confident that this will be a great day of music but we need your help. Please support this initiative by donating generously.
