Run to the White House: 2008

Postby Neil » 1/9/2008, 1:12 am

Figured this would be easier than generating a thread for everything that seems to happen along the way.

Was anybody surprised by the first two primaries? (Iowa and New Hampshire) I, for one, did not see Obama's victory coming in Iowa. I really thought Clinton would pull it off; though I did hear Obama made one hell of a public run to gain support there.

I did hear that Hilary took New Hampshire, though. Also, I did not foresee (of all freaking PEOPLE) McCain taking New Hampshire. That actually shocked me. I was truthfully thinking McCain was gonna be on his way to backing out. Looks like that won't happen, yet!

I'm not affiliated with any party, including the independents.

So...Romney took Michigan. Did anybody notice how horrible Guilianni's numbers, were? He needs to drop out.

Clinton took Michigan, but basically uncontested. Then again, who seems to use the Michigan primary as any type of benchmark?

Haven't seen the numbers; only heard of the victors.

South Carolina is next.

If I recall Michigan doesn't count since the DNC didn't like the date it was held on.

Republicans: McCain

Note: AP is reporting that Rudy Guilianni is debating dropping out and endorsing McCain.

Rudy dropped out and announced he IS endorsing John McCain.

John Edwards also has dropped out. No endorsement announcement has been made.

Leaves only Obama and Clinton running on the democratic side. Did anybody catch their 1 on 1 debate the other night?

Super Tuesday is behind us; according to CNN the current delegate totals are:

DEMOCRAT (2025 needed for nomination)

Clinton - 1063
Obama - 962

REPUBLICAN (1191 needed for nomination)

McCain - 714
Romney - 286 (OUT)
Huckabee - 181
Paul - 16

Fox news just called Huckabee the projected winner of Kansas, though. His number will climb at least 24 according to Kansas state rules. They stated that virtually all of Romney's Kansas support gave support to Huckabee and not McCain, who was projected to take Kansas.

The Reps will win because the Dems will do themselves in but they'll be sure to blame Ralph Nader for it.

I'm a registered Democrat; and I'm really starting to dislike Obama and Clinton.

I'm voting Nader.

I'm surprised there isn't more discussion about this in here. I've been sitting on pins and needles for the past week. Seriously.

I'm not 100% decided who to vote. I do know I'm not going to be voting happily no matter what I decide. I miss Romney :(

Most people I associate with regularly don't like to talk politics. I don't either actually. But I don't see how to avoid it because it's so important.
