I'm coming out of the woodworks to reply to this...
I honestly think it would completely trivialize the position of President if an impeachment process were to go ahead. Is it going to become a common occurance for the president to have to fight impeachment at the end of his second term as more than likely something has happened over the previous 8 years that would be a cause for impeachment? I mean it would then happen to two successive Presidents, and would at least provide evidence that it could happen again and again in the future if it is seen by the opposition to work (work by at least swaying public support).
I mean, I don't deny that the President did a lot of stuff he shouldn't have, but in all honesty, what's done is done. I could see if the President didn't have a finite term in office, but to shorten someone's term from 8 to 7 years is not going to fix anything, and if anything would only cause it to happen more in the future.
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.
