I also agree. It would have been dumb for Brokeback to win just because of it's content. I didn't LOVE Crash, but it was definitely better. I am not a fan of Brokeback at all. Sure, it's tragic. That doesn't make it beautiful to me.

I don't think Brokeback's beauty is due to the fact that it's tragic. Yes, that adds an element of beauty, but I think it is beautiful due to the way it was filmed, acted, put together, etc. Ang Lee has made some of the most beautiful films I have ever seen.

I was (obviously) happy that Reese took home best actress, she deserved it. "Walk the Line" was arguably the best movie I watched in quite a while.
Joaquin Phoenix played an amazing Johnny, but I do agree with him not receiving best actor.

I have to say though......Phillip S. Hoffman did not deserve best actor. That award made me angry enough to shout "fucktard" and "fuck stick" at the TV. The majority of us in here probably have not seen "Good Night, and Good Luck" but wholly shit did David Strathairn get ROBBED.
Clooney did a SICK job on that movie, and I'm also bitter that he did not receive Best Director. Ang Lee did NOT deserve it. Brokeback Mountain was sooooo freakin overrated, all because of the gay cowboys.

Remember the montage.....Jon Stewart was right "I had to develop a montage to prove that its the gayest genre of movies out there."

Also, while "Good Night, and Good Luck" was truely an interesting movie......"Crash" did deserve Best Picture, and for that I was definitely happy. I didn't think that "Crash" would be such a great movie.

Paul Haggis is now in post-production of "Flags of my Fathers", which just wrapped up filming in Toronto. Clint Eastwood also worked with him, on the project just like on "Million Dollar Baby", and Ryan Phillipe (Reese Witherspoon's husband) is one of the lead's in the movie. Should be a great movie, can't wait to see it.

Classy? I don't know about that. He seems like a great guy, though. He's freaking hilarious.

This is one of my favorite stories about him (though it was way funnier when told on Leno):

George Clooney Is Mr. Bad Luck Says Matt Damon
6 December 2001 (WENN)

George Clooney spent downtime from filming heist comedy Ocean's Eleven trying to kick his gambling bad luck in Las Vegas - and failed miserably. Co-star Matt Damon joined unlucky Clooney in Vegas' top casinos and couldn't believe what he saw. He says, "He's the unluckiest guy at a table by far. I sat there and watched him lose 25 straight hands of blackjack in a row. After about 10 hands I was saying, 'You have to win. You're gonna win a hand,' but he kept saying 'I can't win at cards, it's just something.' Eventually he ran out of money so he said, 'Can I take out a marker?' and they wouldn't give him one and he said, 'I have a lot of money, I should have a marker,' and they said, 'Do you have ID?'" Damon ended up lending his pal $600, which he lost, and now the young actor regrets being so generous. He adds, "The next morning I woke up and there's an envelope under my door and there's a check in it from George - I thought, 'It's not like my friends from back home.' But in the little memo section in the check, which is where you write what it's for, George wrote 'for lap dances,' so if I was gonna cash the check it was gonna make it look like I had been lap dancing for Clooney."

i don't think brokeback is overrated.
i went to see it before i had heard anything about it at all, other than jake gyllenhal was in it. and i loved it.

i saw crash tonight, for the second time. i found myself appalled that it won best picture over brokeback, which i have also seen twice.

just thought i'd throw that out there.
you have to, you just have to trust me
whoever i was then i can't ever be again
the faith you've found i've never felt
the terror held in wedding bells
the comfort in "there's no one else"
the truth be told, i'm never going to know

I've seen Good Night, and Good Luck and I have to say that I'm not too sure that Strathairn portrayed Edward R. Murrow all that accurately. Why? Because I've never seen anything with the real Murrow. However, I haven't seen Capote, but from the bits I've seen, behind the scenes looks, trailers and the stuff they had shown at the Oscars, I'm speechless at how much Phillip Seymore Hoffman seemed like Truman Capote. He doesn't look like the guy at all, but his manerisms and his voice/speech patterns are amazing. I'd need to see the whole film though and see some real footage of Edward R. Murrow to judge accurately on who was really deserving of the Oscar.

The Hulk doesn't count. That was a fluke. When you've made movies like Brokeback, Sense & Sensibility, Crouching Tiger, and Eat Drink Man Woman, you can get away with making a Hulk.

And yay Tasha - right on!
