NAPLES, Fla.- If Domino's Pizza founder Thomas S. Monaghan has his way, a new town being built in Florida will be governed according to strict Roman Catholic principles, with no place to get an abortion, pornography or birth control.
The pizza magnate is bankrolling the project with at least $250 million and calls it "God's will."
Civil libertarians say the plan is unconstitutional and are threatening to sue.

I don't see the harm in it. You choose to live there, so if you dislike it, leave, if you like it, don't!

I agree with Sinead

Basically it's your choice to live there, somewhere I definatly wouldn't want to live, but that's why I won't.

It does bother me though how close it is to Islmaic extremism, although I'm sure tons of people will argue it's completely diffrent. How do you think this idea would go over if it was the exact same format but Islamic instead of Christian (tomato/tomahto)?

I'd be intrested to see the rate of unplanned pregnancies (marriages), and sexually transmitted disease in the town after a few decades. After all kids are gonna be kids eventually, and some of them are gonna have sex despite their faith, which could be tricky in a town with no protection.

Ultimately, you can't stop an idea. Once people know about abortion and birth control, its not going to go away. If people want to live in a place that doesn't support that, fine. It really doesn't impact the rest of the world. There are already pleanty of communities across North America that essentially have the same principles anyway, they just arn't formal.

Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

I thought America was meant to be based on religious freedom. Various denominations can't just go around claiming chunks of land for themselves just because one of them's stacked from making pizzas.

I'd also like to add someone should check up on Jefferson's grave and make sure it's still intact. Jefferson must be spinning wildly.

People have the freedom to do whatever they want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone as far as I'm concerned though. Although i don't agree with this sort of thing at all.

so long as god's will involves yummy domino's pizza it's fine by me

...the thing i'd worry most about is the education there - children being brought up with fundamentalist views, in a closed environment without access to other ideas, and knowledge.

however, people will raise their children as they see fit, and there's not much others can do to intervene no matter where they live.

if they want to live in a conclave, well i suppose that's their perrogative. however, denying others the right to live there (why they would want to is beyond me) is not. at least they arent trying to convert an existing settlement.

Kids who go to public school could still be educated in their homes(and be more affected) by their religious teachings.

Alot of the catholic church is okay though so :)

:::troy:::

Brutus is an honorable man
It's just coincidence that oil men will wage war in an oil rich land
And this one goes out to my man taking cover in the trenches with a gun in his hand
Then gets home and no one flinches when he can't feed his fam...

But Brutus is an honorable man...

Wow

We all half agree on something. Good for us. :D

Just to stir up shit though, what do you guys think would happen if the exact same thing were to happen except with a township run by Islamic beliefs instead?

Something along those lines

Most people now equate "Terror" with "Islam". Of course that only proves their own ignorance to an entire religion. One that happens to be quite close to Christianity. Both being children of Judaism.
