...For a second there I thought you were talking about something dirty. Then I realized you were talking about Twitter.

I don't normally talk about other companies, but I just wanted to mention this to those of you who are trying to do your part being green. Best Buy tested an e-waste recycling program late last year, and has now rolled it out to all of their stores, as of last month. You can bring in up to 2 items per day. Their are some items they can not accept at this time. You can call your local Best Buy to get details on the program and its restrictions.

Oh that's VERY cool. We never have any idea where to take our old broken crap, so it just ends up sitting in the basement forever. Or in the regular trash which makes me absolutely cringe.

(That's cause there is no where in the whole province that does)

(unless you count weird nerdy guys who buy old electronics to take them apart and put them back together)

the staples in calgary takes electronics to recycle. i assumed the whole chain did.

must be an alberta thing because of the electronics recycling tax.

Isn't that stupid? Taxing recycling...

And people wonder why theres a broken air conditioner on my front porch. I'm not paying the junkyard to take it! Those bastards.

Besides... if I get a few more high quality items I can spread them around the front lawn.

They don't tax the recycling...

they tax the electronics. if you buy a tv or a monitor or whatever you're charged a tax that goes towards the electronics recycling program - whether you choose to eventually recycle the item or not. i think you get a rebate when you take something in to one of the recycling facilities, or it may be corporate rebates for companies - like staples - who provide a recycling service. i'm not sure.

Ahhh. I get'cha. That makes more sense. They should do that here...

the name's just misleading because it's called the electronics recycling tax. i worked at zellers when they implemented it, and people were so pissed about having to pay a little bit more for their tvs - never mind that alberta doesn't have provincial sales tax, so its still less tax than you'd pay for a tv in say, ontario. but it seems to be a good program, despite the initial abuse of poor retail employees.

i remember this one guy buying a tv.
"why is it so much?"
"well sir, if you look at this sign, it explains the new recycling tax"
"well take it off!"
"uh, it's required by law."
"i don't care. i'm not paying it!"
"well then don't buy the tv."

he bought it. and paid the damn tax. crazy people.

It's pretty amazing how the general public assumes that employees at any given place of business can just make taxes, fees, etc disappear. That amuses me....

Yeah, it's just like people thinking that because I operated a sunglass stand on the Thruway at a rest stop, I was able to just make up my own prices. I must own the stand or something, right? Just like all those kiosks at the mall, because those people own their stands too, right? "No, if you notice, this is a COMPANY and I just work for them, so no, I cannot just give you a discount because you don't want to pay full price."
"But baby, you're so gorgeous, why isn't you married? Can't you give me a discount?"

I actually got that once.
