R&B musician Chris Brown was arrested tonight before the grammy's after allegedly beating up his girlfriend: fellow R&B artist Rhianna.

Apparently she identified him as the attacker to the police. Brown did flee the scene before the cops arrived. However, he turned himself in a short time later.

Crazy stuff...

i read an article on this on the bbc. what i find interesting is that the girl was on birth control, and missed a pill. there was no mention of a condom, so I assume they weren't using one - again this makes me wonder how much emphasis is put on STIs in health classes; it seems kids are taught that the main purpose of condoms is to prevent pregnancy, and there is little constructive discussion of STIs and how to avoid them. I mean, no method of birth control is 100%, which is why a backup should always be used. A father at 13, and the mother is 15 - children having children is frightening. quotes from this boy show that he obviously doesn't know what he's in for . . . when asked how he would support the child financially, first he asked for "financially" to be explained, and then mentioned his father's occasional pocket money. Frightening.

The second problem is that the media is presenting this as a new problem; as if a culture that contains sexual freedom is to blame. but this is hardly a new phenomenon; people just used to keep situations like this quiet, while now they are widely publicized. while it is better to have these things out in the open, I worry that people react hysterically and blame sexual visibility in our culture.

What was everybody's take on Obama's speech last night?

What I found most interesting is the fact that we now know the U.S. is looking to withdrawl its major troop support in Iraq by mid-2010. However, did we hear him mention that we have two more major waves of troops being shipped out to Afghanistan???

Mmm, I didn't pick up negativity.

Anyway, that's where the troops should've been in the first place. Sadly, at this point, I feel it's probably too late.

(Though I should mention I'm out of the loop and speaking through ignorance because war stuff is NEVER reported in the news anymore.)

Probably because American Forces aren't taking heavy casualties anymore. Let's face is, when one or two soldiers is KIA, then its not news, but when a platoon is wiped AND there is civilians casualties, THEN and ONLY THEN is it reported.

I get regular e-mails (at least once a week) from my last college that the flags are being flown at half staff in memory of soldiers who were killed in action - they send the individual names and where they're from (I think they're all NYS soldiers), and the day the flags will be at half staff.

I think it's a nice gesture.

So did they ever find out if Baby-faced Alfie was the real father? Last I heard on the story there were two other boys claiming that they might be, and each of them said they knew other possible candidates who weren't coming forward. It was getting steadily more disturbing as time went on.

Oh... my. I hadn't heard that part. I liked it better just thinking it was the little boy.
