the migra aren't he only ones to be scared of, the ass hole ranchers got mercenaries to patrol their lands looking for people too. and those guys are dicks. this one story i heard was that these brush partols would find them, and take off their shoes and make them walk back to mexico. and then there are some stories where they let them loose and they hunt them down in the monte. 
they caught two of these brush patrol guys the other day, appearantly some illegals got ruffed up and went to the check point and told them who they were and what they did.

regionally it is a holiday in some parts, but i don't think it well ever be a national thing. (and i'm not sure if it should be) like in the valley, where literally there are no african american students, schools are open on MLK day. they do washington, and presidents day (sometimes) and then there are some locations where cesar chavez has a day. it's rare, but it happens.

people are such jackasses when it comes to migrant workers around here. about a year a go some dude went and hired two men, told him he had a job for them to do. he took them out to the middle of nowhere, told them to dig two big holes, and then beat them and threw them in the holes. they died. it was so incredibly sad.
