Most things in school are taught as "absolute truth", and a lot of them aren't. It's up to kids when they get older to decide whether they believe them or not. *shrugs*

Most things taught in school are truth. There is no debating that 2+2=4 or that World War 2 occured. However when it comes to the origin of the world, there are two very distinct camps. Evolution is being taught as truth and creationism or Intelligent Design is not being mentioned at all. It's not fair to only teach one theory and teach it as "truth." The majority of kids out there will not bother to investigate evolutions claims later in life because they will assume it is truth just like every other fact they've learned. Why not teach both as theory's and let them decide right then and there.

the majority of kids aren't going to go on to peruse the mysteries of the universe. so where there are grey areas in the curriculum, they've still got to be taught something. once they've learned it, they accept it and get on with life and don't care anymore.

They dont have to persue the mystery's of the universe. All they have to be taught is that evolution is "truth" and if evolution is truth then there is no God. I know of many people who put the idea of God to death after going through highschool science. And putting to death ones religious interests or even the exploration of religion shouldnt be taken as lightly as most people think. Especially because the very theory being taught is greatly flawed.

In my high school evolution was the only thing taught. Maybe somewhere they mentioned creationism, but there was no discussion. Which seems sort of odd because almost everyone here is religious. But it never bothered me at all. I geuss I just knew that I didn't have to believe what they told me as absolute truth, and that I could change it any way I wanted for my own life. As for the test...well just do like you do for every other class. Do what you gotta do to get an A, even if you don't believe in it. And alot of things taught in public schools are not true. There are so many ideas and opinions that are pushed. Especially in state funded universities and colleges. I have wasted so much time in classes where I thought the professor knew crap and taught crap.

I just don't think theories should be taught as the absolute truth, unless its as the absolute truth of a THEORY. Evolution is taught as the cement and ultimate truth, which isn't fair because it's greatly flawed.

They should only teach TRUTH. Which will never happen.

But in school, they do teach the evolutionary theory. It's called that. At least it was at my school.

There's also the fact that if a child is religious, they get taught the religious belief of creationism or whatever it's called in Sunday school or whatever. So they're getting both sides of it, just not in the same place.

Oh, and just because someone believes in evolution doesn't mean they don't believe in god. It just means they don't believe everything in the bible... or wherever the whole creationalist thingamabob is written.

I clearly know zip about religious beliefs. But you get what I'm saying, I hope.

God being the creator of the universe... is maybe one of the BIGGEST beliefs/doctrinations in Christianity. Well, Catholocism, but i would imagine it would extend to protestant religions as well. Its at the very beginning of the Bible.

The only reason teaching evolutionism OR creationism in school is because neither are.. how do I put this.. scientifically proven. In a religious school, teaching creationism is fine, whatever, But in a school that isnt a particular religion it shouldn't be taught. I don't think evolution should ever be taught as anything other than a theory because it isnt proven. It was taught to me, and other members who've posted in here as the truth.

And i've never heard about the Middle Ages people being shorter. I'll look it up.
