In today's Edmonton Journal
http://www.canada.com/edmonton/edmonton ... 8F7FBD4AAF
Canada was built on a solid foundation of decency, family values, hard work and the love of God. That so many people now appear to have chosen the wide road of self-indulgent pleasure seeking rather than relying on His love and guidance is a sad and shameful tragedy.
I refer in particular to the ever more powerful homosexual and lesbian lobbies, parades and rallies with which jaded newspaper and television editors seek to titillate our interest. That these groups seek to defy God's clearly explained and specific laws by engaging in same-sex marriages is an abomination to Jesus Christ and an affront to every decent human being living in Canada.
That they continue to make discernable progress, courtesy of our gutless, lily-livered and self-serving politicians is, I suppose par for the course.
We are rapidly turning into a Godless and spineless society and I, for one, am deeply ashamed for all Canadians who do not have the moral fibre to stand up and be counted at such a vital time in our history.
This is not a question of compassion, or being open-minded, or "being treated as second-class citizens" (their phrase!), it is a simple question of what is right or wrong in God's eyes. And for certain churches to embrace this heretical and dangerous policy as acceptable is unbelievable and shameful. Permitting the un-elected and unaccountable justice system to handle moral and ethical questions of such gravity and importance as same-sex "marriages" is a pure mockery of the leadership and democracy we live in. The justice system has absolutely no mandate to rule on these cases, and it is yet another sad reflection of the incompetence and self-serving hedonism of our politicians that they are allowed to get away with it.
One has to wonder just what made us elect these clowns in the first place?

that's very pathetic in my mind. God and government are two totally different things, and it is only the Ontario govt which has allowed gay marriages, it's not the Pope allowing them. It's merely a legal issue and really has nothing to do with the "moral vibre of our nation"
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

I don't see what the big deal is, and it's long overdue.

heh, religious fanatics, they can't be taken seriously.

Whenever death may surprise us,
let it be welcome
if our battle cry has reached even one receptive ear
and another hand reaches out to take up our arms.
Nobody's gonna miss me, no tears will fall, no ones gonna weap, when i hit that road.
my boots are broken my brain is sore, fer keepin' up with thier little world, i got a heavy load.
gonna leave 'em all just like before, i'm big city bound, your always 17 in your hometown

Holy flying fuck, the fact that anyone would take this guy seriously sickens me. I find it so hypocritical that this guy would go against "what's wrong in the eyes of God" when the Bible teaches to treat everyone equally. It's basically the same mentality of the people fighting religious wars for their religion while ignoring the blatant rule of "thou shalt not kill."
To me Canada has always been a country open to new ideas, and tolerant of all kinds of people. That's why our society is so uniquely multicultural, that's why African slaves escaped here, that's why our history is so boring- because its not dotted with endless and bloody battles. To me Canada is a bout peace among all people.
When this guy talks about "Canadians standing up for themselves" he's obviously has no idea of what the Canadian mentality is. Standing up to what? You and your own prejudiced ideals? Bullshit.

I've been hearing a lot of this shit from my friends, and I'm damn well near exploding.
Shut the fuck up about how this is a "godless society" and that our "moral fibre is decaying" and whatnot. I actually hear Christians tell me that tolerance is a bad thing. Tolerance. This country is not all Christian for fuck's sake, and you will tolerate other people or go elsewhere, maybe to the middle-eastern nations where God is part of their society. They're in great shape eh? Fuck!!

Just because I am sexy, naked, a bassist, and sporting a top hat doesn't make me Duncan Coutts!

You know, it is possible to be against homosexuality and still treat them equally. My religion forbids homosexuality, but I know a few and I don't treat them any less than anyone else I come across. Fornication is also wrong in the eyes of God, although I don't see very many fornication hate groups. The bible says, "Love your neighbor as you love yourself," but it also says, "Hate what is bad." So basically, don't "hate" the person, just the lifestyle they lead. You are absolutly right about the "thou shalt not kill" thing. True bible following christians don't fight in wars. The fake (read: hypocritical) ones do. The bible really, in itself, isn't hypocritical. People are.
It's good to keep an open mind about things people. I find closeminded people to be quite ignorant. This is my own personal opinion; feel free to contest it.

See that's strange. We're really not that different. You see, I despise Christianity and all it stands for, but I still try to love the people who follow it, because it isn't their fault they're so damn stupid.
(by the way, I'm being sarcastic, and I find your arrogance disgusting)

How am I arrogant?
-Arrogant-
ADJECTIVE: 1. Having or displaying a sense of overbearing self-worth or self-importance.
2. Marked by or arising from a feeling or assumption of one's superiority toward others: an arrogant contempt for the weak. See synonyms at proud.
I don't recall saying I was better than anyone else.
