Whenever death may surprise us,
let it be welcome

Normally I'd say the kid did something to provoke them and probably deserved it (although not to the extent of paralysis), because I think teenage kids, and guys in specific, are just assholes and usually deserve an asskicking. Sorry to sound cynical, but half the teenage guys around my town are cocky pieces of shit that would probably deserve "police brutality." Cops have to put up with a lot of shit, and you never know how crazy the person you're arresting or whatever could get. I would probably be overprotective of myself as well. However, from reading this, it doesn't seem to be the case this time, and it's just sad that something like that would happen to a kid who didn't do anything that wrong from the beginning.

Wow, I use to work security, and I always found it easier to just talk people down. I found that being informative and sometimes extremely patient did have its reward. The last thing you want to do is escalate a situation that can be solved peacefully.
THe kid was reaching for a door.........I want to hear why the officer felt that he was a threat? And when people say "I can't feel my legs"........you better fucking listen, even if they are faking. Ignoring it is totally a neglect of your duty. I think that officer also has to be taught about extreme force and someone who is complying to solve the problem. What a meathead.
Yeah, from the sounds of that article, I am pretty mad too. I wish I could see the incident so I know what to look for. Desciptions and eye witness accounts don't always mean anything. In fact, they can obscure the facts greatly.
Similar to the Rodney King incident, which made the officers look incredibly guilty, but when all the facts came out I understood their actions.......(except that one stupid kick to the head)

What I don't get is why they waited like 20 minutes before calling for medical help. In that time they could have made repairs that could have saved him. You never know with these things.
