why?

lol why?!

because Tae-kwon-do's theory of defending oneself is kicking

like who would kick in a real fight?!?!

For example, last year a black belt in tae kwon do joined the karate club and one night it was sparring night. Him and I got in the ring because I wanted to test out what his fighting skills were like. I was teaching that night and at the time I was a second degree black belt. Anyways back to the story ...I got in the ring with him and started my thing and he started his thing. He threw a kick, I easily worked the angle on it to avoid. He threw another kick, I worked the angle on him again. I was like "Hmm." ...So I observed his techniques and quickly jotted down his fighting abilities and he was simple, he just threw kicks. So he threw another kick ..haha I captured it and I simply told him, "Don't kick, I could've had you right there." ... I let his leg go and we went at it again. He kicked again, and I captured it and I threw in a "gyakuzuki" or reverse punch into his rib/solar plexus region and I said, "I told you not to throw a kick, see how easily I captured it and threw a counter attack into your region?!?!" ...he was dumb founded and I was like, "Ok, try and kick me again, I'll show you what happens and how I do it" ...so he tries to kick me and I work the angle yet again and capture and take sweep him down to the ground and as I'm taking him down I throw another gyakuzuki into the mid section and I was like, "Don't throw kicks, if you are going to throw a kick make sure your going to get it in before you execute it". Because in Karate it's mostly handwork we use to initiate an attack, followed by a kick after the handwork or the other way around, kick then handwork. ...In tae kwon do it's all foot work which, in my opinion and experience fighting with people in tae-kwon-do, it's dangerous.

Tae Kwon Do is 70 percent kicks and 30 percent punches. In Karate it's 50/50.

He's big into Karate, and even made it to worlds a few years back, he got second place in the world in his age group (under 18 i think).

lol i don't really know that about Karate, Steve's my only connection to it.

By the way, he says Karate Manitoba sucks shit, would you agree?

Nope, I don't know him. Is he a member the Nova Scotia karate team?!

Haha, Karate Manitoba is pretty equivalent to the Nova Scotia Karate Association in suckiness

A friend of mine I used to go to high school and work with tried to get me to take jujitsu (I think) grappling with him about 5 years ago. I wrestled for 5 years so I thought it would have been a good transition. Unfortunately I never went. My back, neck, and knees are in too bad of shape to try that now. :(

Don't worry Dommy. You can mess with him all you want. I could take him. So what if he has a third level black belt? I took karate for a little while too, but the instructors were assholes, so my parents pulled me out before I even got a belt (that's right I didn't even make it to white belt). I'm still confident that I could win.

I wanted to do wrestling. But my parents wouldn't let me, and now I have no time or money.

I took 4 free karate lessons in fourth grade or so. Upon discovering that, in order to continue, I had to pay a crapload, my parents sort of backed out.

I don't really remember how I reacted then (though I was not really the whining type, so I probably just ignored it), but in retrospect I don't blame them. I like moneys.
I just wanna get out,

You should have karate chopped them. That reminds me. In grade nine gym we were forced to take BUDO for self-defence. It was a combination of all the martial arts. Does that count?

It was only the girls that got self defence training at my school. A man came in and taught us how to kick men in the balls :D
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.

And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

my school had people come in and teach the girls to defend ourselves. the only thing any of us remember is 'grab, twist, and pull'.

does that count for anything? :P

I'd say that sounds like advice for the bedroom but I think it would kill my chances of ever getting laid by a CMer.
