my band is releasing our first single. it was cowritten by myself and the matrix.
we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.

So I listened to it. Maybe I just can't get into punk, or maybe I just don't understand it (if there's anything to understand) but here's my thoughts on it... The singer's voice is ordinary and flat. I felt like I could have gone down to the local high school and asked anyone to sing those lyrics and they would have came out with the same quality. The drums were for some reason the loudest part of the band. You had to almost find the guitar behind them to even know the guitar was there sometimes. The vocalist needs to be more prominent, and the drums need to be toned down. The lyrics were well written, but for a single it wasn't the most catchiest of stuff. They also tackled the usual topics (ie. no one understand me, I want to die, I'm alone in this world, etc) which made me a disinterested.

Ya, that was harsh, but if you're serious about getting into the music industry then I'm sure you don't mind the criticsm (and I'm trying to be constructive with it). Good luck though with your band.

You write music with Avril Lavigne's shitty backup band?

the matrix is not her backup band. it is the production company that helped craft many of the thousands of hits off of her first album. and that song has nothing to do with being alone in the world or wanting to die, but i do appreciate your tips. i will try to mix the next song a little better.

The Matrix has also worked with Hilary Duff...
I liked the song, but not so much the vocal style. To me it sounded sort of like her was unsure of what it was he was singing.

It's pretty good, but I'm not totally wowed. I did like it however, but yeah the drums are loud.

Queens Of The Stone Age-Someone's In The Wolf

Once you're lost in twillights's blue
You don't find your way, the way finds you...

Tempt the fates, beware the smile
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...

So glad you could stay
Forever

He steps between the trees, a crooked man
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand

You warm by the firelight, in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..

So glad you could stay
Forever

Well Jeff, I've listened to everything you've posted over the years and I can say this much. You and your band are improving quite a bit.

i just find it impressive that she was able to fit several thousand songs on a single album, let alone a few thousand of them being hits

she must be the greatest recording artist off that one album alone

Impressive, how did you manage to get a hold of The Matrix? Regardless of whether or not you like what they do, that's pretty cool.

abit more of an exciting drum beat would definitly help the song, its too monotone. He really juse uses the bass, snare, and hi-hats during the whole song, gets boring after a while.
