Thousands can't figure out just what they did, just what they, just what they did...

I need your help

Postby Solidarity 9-6347 » 9/4/2002, 5:35 pm

ok as of right now my parents are being major assholes and they say that i can't go to the concert in detroit because A) its at the "dangerous fire trap" state theatre and B) its on a school night

how completely asinine right?

this is why i need your help. nobody knows the importance of this concert to me as much as you guys do. those of you that want to help me out, please send your arguments to my mother's email address:

mr12owat@wsdmi.org (mrs. robinson)

*please don't send any vulgar or insulting comments

to all of you that help, you have my sincerest gratitude...i am desperate at this point :(

I wrote a letter tonight hun, but I'm going to wait until tomorrow morning to send it. I should probably proofread it when I haven't got two martinis under my belt.

 never you fear. we'll do everything in our power to see that you get to that show. especially since most of us won't be able to attend. :crying:

a few questions?

How old are you?
besides being a school night why won't she let you go/
Maybe if you talk to her calmly and tell her you really like to attend this show and tell her why she might change her mind

Will you be going with friends or alone?

I ask because I am an adult and can understand why your mom might feel this way.

if all else fails just deal with it. It isn't worth losing your parents respect fort a show. The band tours frequently and they do play Detroit alot.

when I was 17 I had tickets to see a concert. My friend and I were excited till our moms told us if we go don't come home. It was a school night and they laid down the law. We didn't go and I sold my tickets. Things are so differnt now then when I wasa teen.

good luck.
I still say tell her how important it is to you to go and tell her you will call from the show etc. Work with her and maybe she will change her mind.

to answer your questions gail, i am 17 and the only other reason she wont let me go besides the fact that its on a school night is that its at a venue she doesnt like.

thanks again for your help and advice...i really do appreciate it

pester her......and pester....and pester....when i asked my mom if i could go to the philly show she said no way, due in part that i had to work the next day, i didn't have a ride for the two hour trip, i was going alone, by bus, and she just plain didn't want me to go. BUT, i worked, and pestered and called off work, and got friends to take me, and set everything up anyways, and she finally conceeded. she actually ended up paying for the ticket because i didn't have any money and she knew how important it was to me. what a babe. oh yeah, play a lot of olp music around her. we'd go to the supermarket and i'd pop in some happiness...or clumsy, and sigh every once in a while. i gave her a mini guilt trip...and i got someone else to be on my side. my dad could care less what happened, but my sister supported the idea and voiced that to my mom.

all in all here's my advice...show her you can be very responsible, suck up, A LOT, show her how important it is to her, mention you could be on the DVD, and be persistant, never lose hope. as mean as a mom can seem, deep down they've got a big heart for their kid and they normally will let you do something if they know it means a lot to ya. good luck.

holy crap. I'm 28 years old. also an adult. and I think you should go to the damn concert. I understand that your mom is worried about you, but I also remember when I was 16 and snuck out of the house to go to a Soundgarden concert. my mom called the damned cops to retrieve me from the area behind the club. the year was 1990, and Soundgarden was still playing CLUBS. I could have met Chris Cornell. I had almost talked my way into the 21+ club. I'm still pissed at my mom about that. I will never forget it. I was a good kid who deserved to see her favourite band in concert. ye gods, I didn't get to see them for another frigging year. it was cruel. I'm going to write the most professional and convincing letter that your mom has ever read. dammit.

I don't mean to burst your bubble but it's more like 13 hours...
it took my friends family 9 hours to get NYC from where we are and then it's another 4 hours to Detroit...
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.
