Posted on .net but had to share with you guys as well.

"When and where was your first OLP show? What do you remember about it?"

I remember it like it was yesterday ...
*look into space while scratching chin and the screen goes all wavy with the harp playing in the back*

As I've said before I had been a fan of OLP since I thought Supermans Dead was by the Smashing Pumpkins. But in Jr. High I learned many things:
1. OLP sang Supermans Dead, not the Smashing Pumkins
2. Clumsy is possibly the greatest album ever
3. (After purchasing Naveed) Holy crap I remember these songs and they rocked!!!

Fast forward a few more years of listening to 89X play OLP over the airwaves everyday. The closest they got to touring the US nearby me in High School was Windsor.

I had a route all planned out to the venue as soon as I herd the concert announcement. I could do this. No problem it's right accross the border.

But denied by my mom. (Blast her and her estrogenical treacherey!!)

So another year'ish goes on and Happiness comes out. I get it the day it comes out and that CD did not come out of my CD player untill Spiratual Machines came out a year after that.

Obviously by now you can imagine my excitement while listening to the radio Phatt Matt announced the Detroit tour date for St. Andrews Hall.

I had the date marked on my calender. I had reminders posted for when tickets went on sale and when I woke up that Saturday morning tickets went on sale I was up at like 8 because I didn't want to risk sleeping in and missing my chance.

Unfortunatley defeat came at 10:03 am that morning. The 1000 seat venue had sold out in minutes flat. GAHHHHHH!!!!!

So depression set in for the next few weeks. I was spiteful whenever I herd the DJ say "Comming to Detroit March 13th" Errr you tease you tease me!!!

Then an angel spoke to me. Kelly!
A week before the show it was annoucned on Kelly's Little Lunchbox that 100 tickets for the big show would be availble day of show to the first 100 people through the doors. YESSSS!!!! WHOOOO!!!

My smile could not be contained that week. "Someones phsyched for spring break!" a friend of mine said while hanging out in the student lounge @ my college. "Hell yea I'm going to Detroit!!" I responded. A puzzled look came on his face. Keep in mind this is Ohio in the middle of March it's had been cold wet and rainly for the past 2 weeks or as I like to refer to it: "Lousy Smarch Weather"

Everybody else that was heading off somewhere for spring break was heading for Florida, Texas, Myrtle Beach, even a few heading for Cancun. Not me, Detroit would be my best spring break ever!!

I was in an incredibly great mood. I was starting what would become a time tested pre-concert routine. I listened to Naveed early in the week, on to Clumsy and Happiness then that Friday I just had life on repeat. I was flowing with OLP'ness. I couldn't sit still taking my finals that week. Not that I was jumpy I was just flowing. OLP running over and over in my head a very relaxed feeling flowing through my body and all the right answers comming down on the paper. I nailed my exams that week. I jumped out of my seat after my last exam and headed out the door. Passing a few friends on the way. "So Detroit for spring break in this weather huh?" "Hell yea!!!" "Your crazy man have a good one!"

Then came possibly the longest weekend of my life. Washed the car all Friday in the garage. Worked a little more on Saturday changing the oil, checking the tires for the 3 hour trek. I was increadibly wound up Sunday plotting and double checking the route. Checking for construction getting caught up looking at landmarks on the sattelite map: Tiger Field, Joe Louis Arena etc. etc.

Monday morning. One of many great feelings in the world came when the alarm clock came on, I hit the snooze button, rolled over and went back to sleep. Yes I did the same thing the days before but this was extra sweet because it was a Monday. I must had went into a Jedi Mind trance that morning becuase I slept in till noon. My body must had known I would need the energy for the next day. Lounged around the house all day still having the OLP'ness flowing through me. I'm sure I was probably chatting up the ClumsyMonkey all that night untill I grew tired enough to sleep.

Tuesday March 13th 2001
I was up like a bolt @ 6am. Yes 6am. I knew this was going to be huge and I wasn't going to miss out. The concert sold out in a matter of minutes. Only 100 tickets left to the first 100 people. I don't care if doors open @ 8pm I was going to be in line early.

So a quick shower and 1 bowl of Frosted Flakes later I was out of the driveway and on the highway for Detroit!! OLP on the stereo and I was pumped. It's a good thing my car had cruise control because if I hadn't used it my foot would had been floored.

2 1/2 hours later the Detroit skyline comes on the horizon. I admit comming up I75 Detroit isn't the prettiest skyline. Not liek what you see on all the postcards taken from Windsor. It's a little industrious and downtrodden looking but on that morning it was an incredible sight.

When I hit the outer limits of Detroit I switched off the OLP and switched on 89X. Ahh Chuck the Freak you were a god that morning. I'd never herd his voice so clear (Although this is mainly due to the fact 89X's signal tends to attenuate a good deal 3 hours away). He was just as excited as I was about the concert and it got me even more pumped.

So I navigate through the busy rushhour morning traffic. No doubt pissing off a handfull of people driving so slow looking abck and forth between my map and the road names but I finally made it to Greektown casino.

Greektown Casino?! I thought the show was at St. Andrews Hall?
Your right to be puzzled and ask that question. I enjoy throwing people off like that :)
Actually Greektown casino is right down the street from St. Andrews hall.

I pay my all day fee tip the attendant and walk on down the street up to the steps of St. Andrews hall right up in line somewhere around 9am - 10 am. I

This the line? I ask. "Sure is!" I peel off my jacket revealing my OLP T-shirt. I wanted to be cool and expose it the whole time but I quickly came to my senses as it was 40 degrees out w/ a light but blustery wind and on and off drizzling rain. I promplty put back on my sweater and coat.

There I stood somewhere around 12th - 14th in line. How early did you guys get here? I ask the people up front. "Oh we were here at Midnight and there was nobody here so we slept in our car." "You want down on some hot choclate?" I happly obliged made some chit chat then we all went back to hugging ourselves in the Detroit cold with little entertainment but staring up at the tops of the GM Towers visible above the rooflines of the other buildings across the street. Cool. More people arrive more nods and chit chat was exchanged over the next few hours.

Somewhere around Noon - 1 the equipment truck paked right in front of us and started offloading all of OLPs equipment. Although some warmness came from the feeling knowing the was OLPs equipment we were still all stiff from the continuing cold. ... But smiling.

Ohh there's an amp! Look it's their guitar case!! Oh you need some help with that? No problem, my pleasure. *looking at my hands in amazement* "Dude, I just touched OLPs guitar case!"

So the last of the equipment was dropped off. The mid day sun was blazing down on us and the temperature might had reached a balmy 45 degrees there during a breif stint or two of calmness and clear skies. The hours continued to roll by and my back was getting stiffer but I was still soldering on.

Somewhere around 5 the tour bus rolled up. Holy shit it's them!! Wooo!!! Off comes a few people no one knows and smart ass comments are made. Well not really smart ass but stuff like "Are you Raine?" "Where's Raine?" "Are you famous?" Hey there's someone famous I note as Jermey walks by us shaking a few hands signing a few autographs. Same goes for Mike a few minutes later. Duncan was out with a broken wrist if I recall correctly form a failed BMX stunt in a hotel parking lot at a previous tour stop. So we didn't notice the bass player when he walked by. Raine being all rock star like decided to forego the crowd and sneak around back. He came off the bus pulled his hood up over his head and walked the opposite direction down around to the back of the building.

Holy crap!! This was our first time looking back in line since the bus arrived awhiel back and it had grown in thickness and had wound all the way down the street around the corner of the building and all the way back.

Shortly after the boys arrive the 89X street team arrives in fasion handing out stickers and gum and other promotional items. "Are you Phatt Matt?" "Kelly?" "Gynp??" More sarcastic remarks occur to help pass the time.

7pm rolls around the crowd is growing restless. Doors were supposed to open by now! Whats taking so long? More people are shoving their way up front I get a little shoved back. I keep counting how far back I am worst case scenario. I was like 20th so I'm still cool. Some of the gusy up front were vouching or me keeping an eye out for the originals. Ratting out the line jumpers. Bastards!!! Back of the line!! "It's cool we got tickets!" Not happening punk back of the line. A small fight even ensues but our side prevails and the line jumper is escorted to the back of the line.

Ugh 7:30 rolls around people are getting mouthy especially after some people had been drinking and smoking. The guards were getting increasingly pissed as well. One of them told us to get in a fucking line on the wall. Anyone not touching the wall goes to the back. Everyone jumps over at once and I wasn't ready for it because I was so stiff from standing around. But I shove my arm in between two guys and touch the wall for the guard.

Ugh that slice of pizza isn't agreeing with me right now. I was being squished in. The smell of smoke with alchahol was getting to me. I was trying not to breath. But I caught a wiff of alchahol, chewing tabacco, and cigar smoke all at once and Huhhhahhhhggggghhhhhhh

I had thrown up on the sidewalk. The corwd around me was hooting and hollering making fun of the incident. A security guard walked by and I thought I was screwed. He just yelled "Real nice kid!" and walked on.

I actually felt much better after that. My stomach was at peace. I was still stiff but at last doors opened around 8. I filed in line, up the stairs, through the doors, past the guards and up to the ticket booth. Handed over somethign liek $20 for a little red ticket.

Handed it to the door guard who's words are stuck in my mind to this day: "Your In"

YES!!! 10 hours in line and I finally made it. It felt great just to finally move around. My body was comming together and i was ready for the show.

I wated around for what seemed like another enternety but it couldn't had been more than 45 minutes before the lights dimmed a curtain opened and the RK Secret TRack from life started playing with the video up on screen. The deep bass and sharp piano notes filled the air and the venue shook with excietment at OLP walked on stage.

What about babies? ... Molly? ... Molly?

A small hush came upon the crowd and it was completely silent when the opening notes played ....

DUN dun dun DUN DUN dun dun
*CISH CISH*

"YOU FEEL THE LOVE YOU FEEL THE PAST IT'S ALL THE THINGS YOU THOUGHT YOU HAD!!!"
Then quite possibly the most powerful guitar riff known to man played.

Man chills, chills down my spine. A huge smile on my face. I still pump my fist when I rememebr that.

The rest of the concert is history. I say that more because if I wrote about the concert it would be another 12 pages.

The most incredible 12 - 14 hours of my life up to that point.
There's no other way to explain it. I have no way to sum it all up other than just .. just ...

AMAZING!

And so began my true love affair with seeing OLP live.

I read it all too last night, i was bored.

Queens Of The Stone Age-Someone's In The Wolf

Once you're lost in twillights's blue
You don't find your way, the way finds you...

Tempt the fates, beware the smile
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...

So glad you could stay
Forever

He steps between the trees, a crooked man
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand

You warm by the firelight, in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..

So glad you could stay
Forever

i just read it all.

my eyes hurt.
you have to, you just have to trust me
whoever i was then i can't ever be again
the faith you've found i've never felt
the terror held in wedding bells
the comfort in "there's no one else"
the truth be told, i'm never going to know

I really want to bump this thread and talk about my first OLP concert cause it was also my first real stadium concert and it was amazing.

But I don't wanna type out a big long unnecessary story about it.

In short, I freaked and it was amazing and I love that band.
