Columbus 11/17 (Free room & board for Drake attendees)

Thousands can't figure out just what they did, just what they, just what they did...

Postby Tattooed Angels » 11/18/2005, 2:19 pm

Okay I just got back home.. 15 hours after I boarded the bus form Columbus

Part 1-The Radio show
Got to CBUS at about 12;15. Called Brain to see if I didn't miss him or anything. He arrived about 10 minutes later. We went back to his apt for him to chnage then off to the station. When we got there I asked was there anyway we might be able to get in cause I was from NYC and couldn't call to win tickets. The girl there said she would ask someone. She said to write our names down so we did. She took it and told Brian and I we could get something to drink and have some pizza( that was there for winners) about 10 mnutes later this kid shows up and takes our names. I said to him if you give my name to band manager or band they will tell it is okay for me to come in.. He said it is FOR CONTEST WINNERS only, but he will ask then walked away.. The band started to do soundcheck so Brain went to move a little closer to the door. I went with him cause there was a couch there I wanted to sit down in. The kid came over to us and said DON'T TOUCH THE PIZZA IT IS FOR WINNERS ONLY. YOU MUST GO OVER THERE with such an attiude. So we went back over to the other couch to lean on. The dj guy came out. He told everyone to line up single file.We could of just got ont heline. Nobody would of known the difference casue they didnt; check any names or anythign off the line., but being the respectable peoel we are we waited for someone to give us an answer. I was going to walk over to the dj guy to ask if it was okay if we went in. There were only about 20 people there and the radio interns/stafff. The kid came over to us and said DON"T MOVE I Will be back .. Everyone was let in. they closed the doors and started the show. The kid never came back over to us. We listen to 2 songs, and some of the interview( it was on the other side of door near the couch we were on). The kid comes walking over past us. I found him to be rude cause never once did he come back to us and say Sorry we can't accomadate you or anythignlike that. He kept bossing us around telling us not to go here or there. Brian and I weren't even doing anything but standing around waiting for an answer. The guy walked past us so I said do you think we can get in for at least the last song. I don't knwo what B said to him-- but the guy goes like this. YOU CAN LEAVE THE STUIDO WITH THAT ATTITUDE>. I just looked at him cause I had no clue what the hell he was talking about. he said your friend is trying to tell me how to do my job. I think B said to him something along the lines how come you let in all the staff but not us or me or somthing like that. SO he got pissed at him. I said look he is young and I apoligize for him saying that but it is also not right that you never even came back to us and said anything.. He said wel siince you know the manger you can go to the venue for your tickets and to meet the band :wtf: :wtf: .. Then told us we had to leave cause he sid B was trying to tell him how to do his job.. We left and went back to the car. The thing ended so we went to where the van was to pick up the band. The band came out. Raine came over to me and said hey gail how come you weren't inside. I told him I tried to get in. I asked them to ask you or karen. This kid told us it was Contest winners only. Then when we aked if maybe we can see last song-he told us to leave the studio. Raine gave me a look like :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: . The guy was right there I should of said why don't you ask this kid why we couldn't come in. Honestly I felt he never asked the dj guy who was runningit. When I tried to ask him.( there was plenty of room for B and I to go in so that wasn't even teh issue)The kid practically yelled at us not to dare move. He was on some power trip and had this real chip on his shoulders. B had ever right to ask him what he did. That kis was just a little nasty fuck if you ask me.. While talking with Raine I asked him If B and I could possible see soundcheck. he sid yes jsut tell Karen.. When they left we followed them so we could get to teh venue. They went back totheir hotel so we went to the venue to find Karen. We saw Steve( again) and he said he get her for us. She told security to let us in. She said to come back at about 5:30 cause the band was scatterd about and won;t be back. So B and I went to eat some lunch at a nearby palce.

BTW they played WAY, A/L/S, SOT and Innocent.

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

Part 2 the sound check

after B and I had lunch we went back to the venue. Karen came out and gave us WORK PASSES so we can go in. It was just B and I wtching the soundcheck. Jer, Duncan and Joel were jamming when we got ther.e jer on keys, Joel on drums and Duncan on guitar.. then Duncan went on drums and joel on guitar while Jer was still on keys. They were just jaming with each otehre. Then Raine and Steve came out.. They did Carnival and WOAS before leaving the stage. Oh yeah I asked Raine at teh radio station was there any chance I would ever see Blister done live again.>I have been asking for this song since 2001...He said they did do it at one of the soundhcekcs or were thinkingof doing it.

after soundcheck I went to the t-shirts and talked with Karen. She said to us we can say in venue if we didn;t get inanyone's way. YEAH cause it was freezing outside. B and I just sat down on the bench against the wal> We saw the opening band( The Working Title0 do SC..I went to the cart to get somethign. THis guy outside said to me Gail( It was PAUL- ROB's brpother ) He w shocked I remembered his name. I know who he was before he introduced himself. I said I was freezing and needed to get back in. I told him we would save him a spot in fornt on Steve's side for him and his friend.. When they opened doors we met up again in front..

PArt 3 The SHow..

first off this was one of the best performances I have seen of the band .. Before the show Brain, Paul and Jamie( P's frind) allsaid they wanted to hear B-man. SO I said yeah I will jsut write a note to raine and ask. I wrote on this paper. Raine, Please play Blister or Bridman..  .. Then I said i can't toss it ups he probably reconize my writeing.  .. So Brian wrote the note and tossed it one stag. eIt was funny cause allnight it would get stepped on or kicked around. When they cmae out for encores Raine pikced it up and read it. Lauhged then gave it to jeremy who also laughed. Paula nd brain were like yes they are teading the note.

now with the show.. BTW I asked what the back drop was cause so many think it is trees in water, while I always thought it was a fores tor somethign. I asked Raine what tteh backdrop was. I said is it a forest or ocean. He said FOREST.. This is what they palyed.

Picture
IAH-Raine messed up the song, but it was funny cause we kept singing it anyway..
Innocent
A/L/S-which I still lvoe watchign Steve play..
WIC( which jsut recently came back into the set)
Clumsy
WTSOYF( in the middle Raine starts singint 33 wars ont eh planet can you name 2.. SO this is war, So this is wart on war.. )
In Repair( who they dedicated to Chirs Whitley and artist who had lung cancer and was unconsious)
WAY
Car Crash- It was suppose to be Carnival according the offical setlist-which would explainwhy on stage you coud see a song change giong on. Raiane later on told us he was nervous and that is why they didn't do it..
Starseed
WTFBU
SD( which in the middle of the song riane said how they spent the day before in columbus just exploring the city and how mych he loved it)

Encores
4 AM
Boy ( he sang the chorus of life at the end of song0
WOAS
SOT
NAveed

all in all it was a great show. With excpetion of IAH it was a great performance .Paul got Jeremy's drumstick. I got Steve's pick in soundhchek and he tosed one to me at the show.. Paul said he probalby just pysched you out cuse we never found it. We all got pick after the show. They are new and are black, orange or white( shiny) and say OLP on one side and have a girl's face on other side..

Part 4 After the show

atfter the show ended we just went over to the t-shirt stand. Karen was there. I spoke with her for a bit. I said we were going to wait outside to try and see the guys beofore they left. She asked was security tossing you out. I said no-not really. She told us to wait inside cause it was too cold to go outside. I asked could I get 2 othter people. she said yes. So I got Paul and his friend to come back int. She told the security that it was okay for us four ot stay inside She took us to front of the stage and said the guys would be in about 10 minutes or so wso we just hung out untill they came in. I saw Chris( teh new guitar tech ) and aske dhim could i get one of Steve's black pick. he reached in his pocket and gave me an orange/balck pick. he also gave Paul, Jamie and Brian picks.. Raine was first. I asked him to sing just one line of Blister. He laughed. We then said we were the ones who tossed the note onstage. He said he gav eit to jer.. He then said to me didn't we do it on SM.. I said no, last time I saw it was 2000. He said really.. then made this funny face. he sat down on speaker that was there. I said I have 3 questions to ask you. Paul or Brain go didn't you see her with anote book.. LOL..

I asked him about the line--reading PEOPLE now cause brian had the shirt and up till that point I never associateed it with People magazine. I always thought it was reading people like you would read aperson so I asked him.. he said it is both. We then asked about the back drop. I then asked him about a line in WAY. I already told Nikki this theory on the line.. i always wondered if the line in the song "Tonight did Punk rock get in right. is there no future in sight" was a shout out to the sex Pistols Here is why I thought that.
1) Pistols are Punk and 2) they song God Save The Queen has the lyric "No Future For You" over and over again so I wonder if there was a connecetion.
Raine said yes it is a shout out to the pistols. Duncan was there with him and said he wrote that lyric..

Finally Steve and Jeremy came out.. I asked Jeremy how the baby was. He said fine and they found out what sex it was.. AWW. I said congradulations. Aww. our boy Jer will be a daddy soon. .. He asked me if I met Lisa. I said yeah in NYC and you showed me the songogram in DC. I said remember you said you couldn't be there so you felt like a bad father. I told you as long as you are there for the birth. He said Hell Yeah I will be ther ewith flowers, ballons and cameras..

There is so much else, but most of it was stuff Raine and Duncan told me to check out when in Maui.Plus stuff that wouldn;t mean anythign to nayone but me.. It was so much fun too see the show and see the band again.

BTYW I did ask Duncan about the Interview they did with the whole Steve/PH Story. I will post it in the thread.

overall had the best time. The band was so nice and loving toward me..  I can't help but love these guys.. Also to hang with Brain, Paul and Jamie at the show and afterwards. You guys all rock and it wouldn't of been the same withoout you..

what was really funny was Raine saying great to see all you out of towners here. SO Brain said I am from Columbus..  . We outnumbered the native 3 - 1..

Thanks Brain. I had a blast and Red Star will always be special to me also..

Rob stuff like this upsets me. I never say anything to this effet to any one who post their experience about a show/meetng the band etc. Yet when ever I say anything I am accused of bragging.. I highly doubt you were talking to your brother or Brian..

I guess there are double standards on this board..

I have 2 things to say.

1) What I really want to say, Tanya said best here: http://www.clumsymonkey.net/phpBB2/view ... c&start=93 so I'm not going to even bother trying.

2) There are not double standards here. People on the board have had things happen with the band that are great things, because as we all know, the band are super nice, wonderful people. And those people have chosen not to post on here about those experiences because it could be seen as bragging and they have too much respect for the other members of the board to do that. It's a shame not everyone is the same.
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.

And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

And any experiences people do post on the board have a much different ... tone.

no it goes towards Brian too...my brother just said he had fun and he met the band and got a drum stick. It wasnt pages long about a dramatic battle with an intern just so you could be in a radio show that you didn't win tickets for. It is for contest winners, and there is good reason enough that you shouldnt have been let in. Like Rob said it is the tone that some people (not just you) take about their concert experiences (not only on this board).

I'm not bragging here.
I everyone posted up "The show was great, they sounded awsome tonight" then this borad would be a pretty bland place.

No one accused me of braging when I posted up 2 pages of my trip to Toronto for the Drake show. I'm pretty sure everyone enjoyed my ramblings there.

In my defense I didn't go to the CD101 studio expecting to get in. I went there because I knew they were playing there and it was blocks away form the venue. If I got in awsome, if not, no big deal. It was certainly worth a try.

However I do feel the intern treated us pretty bad. He could had just said there wasn't any room left and we would had went on. Instead the guy blew us off then got all upset when we called him on it.

But like I said he got his when he saw us talking to OLP few a few comming out of the studio.

Anwyas for those that like my ramblings I'll continue posting up the rest of my night.

PART II

As I mentioned in Part I Gail talked to the tour mgr who said we could come in for Soundcheck but that wasn't for another 90 minutes.

So we decide to grab a bite to eat. There were two resturants nearby I decided upon the 'Red Star Tavern' just becuase it sounded cooler than the Buffalo grill or whatever it was.

So we go in and are guided to our booths.
The waiter shows us to our booth and says "Is this one allright"
I told Gail "How about the booth next to Steve"

Yes Steve was all on his own grabbing a bite to eat before the show.
So we grabbed the booth next to Steve (Not with him) didn't bother him right away since he was talking on his cell phone but he did see us and smile.

Steve got up for a few minutes and me and Gailjoked about grabbing some of his stuff and auctioning it off on eBay ;P

Steve came back and Gail talked to him for a few. Not wanting to intrude on his time I just sat back and watched. Finally his food came and I tell Gail "Let the man eat his food he's got a big show ahead of him!" so I managed to pry Gail off of Steve so he could eat.

I don't remeber what he had to eat but Gail took a look at his bill it was $11.00 and he left a $20. (Not a bad tipper that Steve)

Sow e finish our meal and head into to OLP jamming in soundcheck.
.. Wait a minute ... somehting isn't right here ...

Jeremy was playing keyboards, Duncan was on the Drums, Steve was trying out the Bass for a few, and Joel was on his own guitar but playing around with his footswitchboard putting out some pretty cool effects.

It was pretty cool just to be one of only a few people in the place wathcing the guys just have fun and jam. Kind of gave me the feeling liek I was seeing my favorite local band play around.

After the jam seession everyone went back to their homes so to speak and Raine came out and did Carnival along with a few other tunes.

After soundcheck was finished we got our places right up front about 10 mins before doors opened. Once doors opened people filed through but it wasn't the mad rush like it was at the Detroit shows I've been too. Crowd was kinda spaced out and jsut really didn't seem very full. Perhaps it was from the cold and not many people were lined up. Things eventually filled out though through the opener Working Title.

They wern't too bad, some good solid music there. Much better than the kids that opened at Royal Oak much less BS.

OLP finally hit the stage and hit the ground running.
I don't know what was differnt about this time around compared to all the other but everything was clicking right, the crowd was into it and OLP just sounded the best they ever have before.

I remember numerous times just closing my eyes and just listening / feeling the music and it was just an incredible feeling. They put it all out on the table and I gobbeled up everything they gave, it was one of the best shows I've ever seen them play.

I had herd Car Crash since the SM tours and it sounded jsut as good as it did before. Duncan jsut played those few bass rips and Jeremy's drums were just crisp solid hits.

WTSOYF was pretty good, Raine was dead on during Will the Future Blame us as well.

The bass on Nvaeed really got to me too. I told Duncan after the show that if I ever learned the bass it woudl be entirely worth it if I only learned those few chords to the begining of Naveed.

Duncan actually stayed the longest and talked the most after the show was over.
It was pretty cool just shooting the breeze with him. I asked him if he listened to John Entwhistle (Bass player fro teh Who) much growing up. He said a little bit, but the most stuff he listed too was Rush along with a few other older bands.

Someone had told him he was starting to get into the msuic more because he was bouncing more. I gave them all my definistion of what a bass player shoudl be ...

A Bass players only job is to sit there, look cool, and play the bass. A bass player is not to be aware of his surroundings. Jsut look around casually like nothign in the world is going on. John Entwhistle had Pete Townsend flailing windmills and tossing guitars around, you've got Daltry swinging the mic around by the cord, you've got MadMan Keith Moon on the drums setting off explosives and through it all Entwhistle just sits there doing his thing. THAT is the definition of a bass player.

Duncan got a good laugh out of that.

Raine came out I told him that out of the 7-8 shows I've been too now this has probably been the best. He seemed pretty grateful and was glad I ahd such a great time.

Jer and Steve were out after the show too but not for too long.

As I said before it was an awsome show. It was great meeting those who I met. Hopefully we get a chance to do it all again real soon.

She wasn't bothering him at all, I was just razzing her.

Don't look into any of the above comments at more than face value.
I say what's on my mind and that's all there is too it.

Don't get your panties in a bunch people, there's no need for it.
