Uncasville CT show - tickets available

Anyone have information on this show? I can't seem to find tickets... are they even on sell yet? I don't live near there, but it's probably going to be the easiest show I can get to.

The Uncasville CT show is a weird outlier. The show is being held at the Wolf Den in Mohegan Sun, which is a free venue, first come first served, for which there are almost always no advanced tickets, unless you are a high-roller at Mohegan Sun. What that means, is that you'll have to just go without a ticket and get online a few hours before the show starts - at least, that's my plan.

I'm in Wilmington NC. I wasn't at the Toronto SM show, but I was at the Buffalo SM show. Were you at that one too? I definitely met a cool fan who was also a big Matthew Good fan.

Outer Banks! Nope, wasn't at the Buffalo one. At the Toronto one there was definitely someone right behind me from North Carolina. Maybe someday!

Yep, it is pretty down here on the NC coast. Most of us from North Carolina are pretty cool, despite what you might see in the news about our state government! I actually grew up in Elkin NC, just a couple hours from Bristol VA.

Maybe we should all chip in and get that $50,000 private concert...

I just got back from the show, so thought I'd post a review. The band sounded great, but unfortunately, there were some disappointments.

The disappointing:
1) The crowd was pretty lackluster. Most of the people on the floor appeared to not move a muscle for the entire length of the show, and the crowd-sing-along portions of the show were met with weak responses. The audience just didn't seem all that enthused to be there.

2) We didn't get the "Clumsy appreciation" show I'd hoped for, and the one they've been playing so far this tour. It was a much shorter show than others they've been playing, by four or five songs. When Raine introduced Big Dumb Rocket he did so by saying that they'd be playing a bunch of deeper cuts from Clumsy throughout the night, and then proceeded to play literally no more deeper cuts. The only other moderately deep cut from Clumsy we got was Automatic Flowers, which opened the show. The fact that we didn't get to hear Carnival, Story of 100 Aisles and Car Crash was a bummer.

3) Speaking of songs we missed out on, I think this may've been the first show I've seen since Happiness came out where One Man Army wasn't played. It's too bad - I love that song.

4) Rabbits is back. I know a lot people are fans of that song, but there's no OLP song I dislike more. Raine is a pretentious guy and that song is pretentiousness served up on a platter. No song brings the energy and momentum of the show to a screeching halt as much as that one does. The fact that the band used it as their opening song for the better part of five years was bad enough, but at least that way, they got it out of the way early. In the middle of a set, it's like they're telling the crowd, 'now's the time to use the bathroom - you have four minutes.'

5) Paper Moon/Life - I love both these songs, but Raine talk-singing one chorus of Life under the music for Paper Moon right at the very end of the song just reminds me that they aren't going to play Life. I'd rather they played Life.

6) No new (unreleased) songs. We didn't get to hear Ballad of a Poet or Head Down. I was excited to hear them and purposely avoided looking them up on youtube. Oh well.

The Good:
1) The band sounded great. Jason isn't Jeremy, and sounds like he has a bit of a sloppier style - specifically in the transition of Not Enough, but he was certainly competent and did a respectable job.

2) In Repair, complete with R.K. intro - totally unexpected and very welcome. I love that song. It sounded a bit more subdued than they've played it other times, but it was wonderful.

3) I know I did a lot of bitching about songs they didn't play, but the ones they did were outstanding. Opening with Automatic Flowers just put a huge smile on my face.

4) Nice to Meet You. If Somethingness Vol. 1 is divided into the good and the bad, Drop Me In The Water and Nice to Meet You would definitely be the good - (Hiding Place is a little too sappy? soft? weak? pretentious? (there's that word again) and Falling Into Place just hasn't fallen into place for me - maybe it'll grow on me, but not yet). Nice to Meet You hit me right away and it was great to hear.

5) Soundcheck - because of the venue, in order to secure a spot inside the show it's best to wait on line pretty early. As a result, we got to hear a soundcheck. Raine didn't participate, but hearing instrumental versions of Nice to Meet You, Big Dumb Rocket, Automatic Flowers and Is Anybody Home two hours before the show was a fun added bonus.

6) Starseed - I will never get sick of that song.

All in all, it was a really good, fun show, albeit a little too short, and with a crowd that could've used a RedBull.

15 songs has been about the normal for the tour. Sucks you didn't get more Clumsy tracks than that. Maybe they shot the setlist once they figured the crowd was weak? Who knows. At least you got Nice To Meet You!

Casino sets are usually shorter for all bands. Most casino's want people out on the casino floor losing money. I saw the hip play a casino set and it was short, the eagles, barenaked ladies, and a few others. It sucks but it is what it is. I'm guessing the reason for the dull crowd would be similar. Most casino's give the big spenders (whales) loads of tickets for any show they want. Because of this you get a bunch of random old people who have no idea what songs the band plays but since they got free tickets they go and hear the show.

To the NC guy at the Buffalo SM show. It may have been me you met as I spoke with a few people and am a huge MG fan.

I got there at 4pm to make sure I was on the floor for this one. They sounded great, but I have to agree that the crowd was kind of lackluster.

I was at the Boston show earlier in the week so hearing "In Repair" and "Nice to Meet You" was a nice treat. Like Gadmo, I could do without "Rabbits".

The show started a little after 8PM and ended around 9:20 so I was pretty bummed that they didn't even do 90 minutes. "One Man Army" could have easily been added.

Overall, the band sounded very tight and the new songs sound great live. Please don't wait another 5 years before you come back to Connecticut.
