It was funny cuz on my 19th birthday I went to buy alcohol and I couldn't wait for them to card me so I could whip it out and prove that I was finally 19 .. and they didn't card me .. the one and only time I haven't been carded was the day I wanted them too .. bastards.

I got carded today; it pissed me off. I order the same drink every cotton-picking time I go to this one restaurant, and they carded me. Last week, I was really hedging on what alcoholic beverage I wanted, and didn't get carded.

When I was 21, I was told I looked 15. poo. Now I'm 25 and I get carded many places in the States. In a few years, I'll be happy about it, but now I'm angry.

I've gone dry Irish pub crawling in Ottawa and didn't get carded, and I walk straight into bars in Saint John, and at NxNE last year, I was with a 20-year-old and an 18-year-old, and the youngest one looked the oldest, so we all got into Holy Joe's even though they were theoretically 19+. I wanted to go see another act at the Horseshoe, but they were supposedly actually carding so instead we walked around Toronto.

But to me, Canadian carding is just a myth.

My ex bf bought me my first drink when I was 16 .. and I spent like an hour or 2 puking in a park near my house .. until a cop showed up and asked if I was okay .. he thought my bf was 'trying something' ... it was kinda funny.

SoozyJ wrote:And it's nothing like the scary drinking age enforcements in the US. I was 20 when I was last there and it was awful! Checking ID up to the age of 30 and arresting people and breathalysing them if they're underage drinking is just wierd. I think I was only ever asked for ID 3 or 4 times from the age of 16 onwards and a couple of those times I think I was 20 anyway!

no it doesnt, people are dumb and drive drunk. I think bars have to card here unless the person looks over 40 it is just policy usually.

yeah, even though I don't drink, England's law about it is a lot better than the U.S.'s policy. Isn't the problem with drinking in the U.S. a lot bigger than in any European countries with more lenient drinking laws? The U.S. should be like that, but it would be mass chaos for a long time after they make it law so I doubt it will ever happen.

In Holland you can buy drinks whenever you want. Officially you have to be 18 for hard liqour like whiskey, rum, etc. and 16 for beer, wine and mix-drinks. But it's not hard for kids under that age to get a drink. I don't believe we have more problems than elsewhere in the world with stricter rules.
