Mr. Rogers

Postby luckyJQ9 » 2/28/2003, 9:32 am

This should have been started yesterday but I forgot. Everyone probably knows by now that Mr. Rogers died. Is it the end of an age? His show was based so heavily on morals, and there was even religious context to it. I don't think another show like his could change America the way that his did. What do you guys think? Was anyone else as impacted as I was by Mr. Roger's Neighborhood and that trolley?

I watched Mr. Rogers all through my younger childhood. It was one of my favorite shows, although the trolley didn't impact me that much.....

I used to watch that show. I was really sad to hear that he had passed. I was listening to the radio last night and the DJ said that a few years ago she was set to interview Mr. Rogers and he was like 2 or 3 hours late for the interview. When he finally showed up, he explained that he was with a young child who was dying and just wanted to meet Mr. Rogers and he [Rogers] knew that was more important than the interview. Of course, the DJ agreed. Just goes to show that he did a lot for the kids!

I was actually gonna start this thread last night, too, but I somehow forgot. I was beyond shocked when I heard it on the news last night. I'm so sad over this. It's like losing a member of your family. He was such an amazing man. I'm glad I got to grow up watching him, let's hope he stays in syndication forever.

Fark had the cutest headline for this:
"Mr. Rogers has died. Heaven a better place today."

That brought a tear to my eye.

Someone on Fark posted a link to a speech Mr. Rogers gave. I'm reading it and crying my eyes out, it's beautiful:

You will be missed.

I haven't cried this much in a very very long time.

Am I the only one here that never watched the show?
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

Wow, you truly missed out. That is/was probably the best kids show ever.

Geez, I've been crying so much that I just went into the bathroom, and wiped at my face below my eyes, and the salt residue from my tears was visible.

I didn't until I read stuff about him a few hours ago. I knew he was a good man, but I had no idea just HOW good.

no wonder they were talking about him in class yesterday.

I found his show lame, even when i was young. but recently, i've come to respect him for his love of children.
Whenever death may surprise us,
let it be welcome
if our battle cry has reached even one receptive ear
and another hand reaches out to take up our arms.

Nobody's gonna miss me, no tears will fall, no ones gonna weap, when i hit that road.
my boots are broken my brain is sore, fer keepin' up with thier little world, i got a heavy load.

Even if people don't like his show, I certainly think he deserves TONS of respect for what he did, he'll definitely be missed. I really like his show when I was little. Along with Mr. Dressup, Fred Penner, oh man those were the days, lol.
