Kat, how are things on your end?

I just posted a topic about studying in Canada. I'm a designer and plan on moving to Canada maybe next year to take a 1 year postgraduate course in Toronto. If things workout well I'll apply for a work permit or something like that and try to stay in Canada for good.

How do you like Canada so far?

What do you do for a living?
Still having a hard time finding a job?

Hey there!

Sounds like you have a good plan! I'll check out your other post in a second.

Canada has been great so far, apart from the busted arm and lack of a job! I seem to keep picking places that aren't smart.

For example: Montreal - whilst almost everyone speaks English, they also all speak French. there are VERY few English only jobs around, so I wouldn't advise moving to Montreal unless you are bilingual. Don't move (unless you are studying of course) in the Christmas and New Year Season - even harder to find work (which is different from Australia because its a busy time there economically).

If you move to Niagara Falls (which is where I am located right now) for work, do so in the summer - there will be plenty of jobs around March apparently. so I am in the middle of figuring out whether to wait it out here until then, or to try somewhere else...

Historically, I am an administrator by trade. I've also done extensive work in Health and Safety in the mining industry in Australia.
I also used to sell band merch at gigs - which I loved but there wasn't enough gigs for me to do that full time in Perth.

Before that, retail experience as well.

I think there is probably plenty of work around for me: I just keep picking the wrong places at the wrong times so far! HAHA! Typical me....

*off to read your other post*

All other conversations aside, things are rather undecided in my location right now. There is not a heck of a lot of work here and there won't be until May. I have a job confirmed at the Merch Shop, but not sure I can hang around doing nothing until then. I really want to work there for the summer, but boy is the season a slow starter

:/

Sorry... having a rough day!

Are you still in Niagara Falls, Kat?

I assume there wouldn't be a lot of job openings in such a small city. Been there before and from what I could tell, Niagara lives off of tourists. Right?
Why don't you try moving to a bigger city?

Hey Fabio, yeah I'm still here in Niagara Falls. I found somewhere to live so that has helped tremendously. Yes... this place certainly lives off the tourists. Thing is, I don't really want to do the big city thing - I try to be a bit different from everyone else. Most Australians go straight to Whistler, but I like to do things that aren't like everyone else.

things are getting better :) thanks for checking up on me!

You should also become a hockey fan. More specifically, become a fan of the Senators. One of two Canadian teams in the playoffs this year.
