So, I just watched Napoleon Dynamite...

...for a second time. I still don't understand why people find this movie funny. Is there a point to this movie or am I missing something?

There is no point, that is the point.

psst.
i love that movie.
you have to, you just have to trust me
whoever i was then i can't ever be again
the faith you've found i've never felt
the terror held in wedding bells
the comfort in "there's no one else"
the truth be told, i'm never going to know

it's one of those strange movies that's not especially funny while you're watching it, but then later someone fires off a line randomly and it's just SO FUNNY

Every now and then I fall out into open air just to feel the wind, rain and everything.
And though the hum and sway gets me down
, I'll find the way to peace and openness.

I love it. Alot.
Its so easy for teenagers to connect to because we're all so utterly pointless that we completely relate to the useless crap that happens. Its an ode to life.

Me and friends watched it for 10 minutes. Then we agreed that it was making no sense whatsoever, so we put on Chris Rock's DVD instead.

This is like saying you don't get the movie Dumb and Dumber. The only thing is, Dumb and Dumber had a minor sub-plot. Two guys trying to return a briefcase to a woman that one of them fell in love with. None of that really mattered though, because that's not what the movie was trying to showcase.

With Napoleon Dynamite, the movie is about High School, specificially Napopleon, a loner. With a look at his life, both at school and his family life. The Sub plot for this movie is really just character driven. It's the people around him. His uncle's past, his older brother and his internet girlfriend etc... It's just a movie about small town high school life. No major plot to follow.

The only part of the movie that I found humorous was Pedro's "protection"

Then you're missing out on some pretty funny stuff. I guess you need to appreciate satire though. That's the main basis for the humour.

I could understand that if you were anything like Napoleon in high school, or perhaps Kip, that the movie wouldn't be very funny... It could make you cry!
