Re: Somethingness Volumes 1 and 2

I can understand some people's preference and nostalgia to music they strongly resonate with. There are many bands and singers that I loved to death at one point and just felt 'meh' about their earlier or later work (few have reached the level of longterm love like I have for OLP, though). As I've ...

Re: Ranked: Somethingness

Just listened to the entire album again and could have easily picked between 5 other songs, but "Last Train" takes it for its different, upbeat sound and the tribal sounding percussion, the guitar work - the vibe of the song is haunting, slightly exasperated, urgent yet hopeful. There are a lot of ...

Re: Somethingness Volumes 1 and 2

I was talking to a coworker today, and he said he heard "Drop Me In the Water" on Edmonton's Sonic Radio. So it's definitely being played here. I don't listen to the radio often, but that station has always been supportive of OLP. Coworker (who is not a fan) thinks OLP sounds a lot like Muse in the ...

Another review: https://boredbyhappiness.wordpress.com/tag/our-lady-peace/

It is a shame that OLP never had the opportunity to do an international tour - but I can also understand the financial hit if they were to pursue it. The marketing for the recent EP is small, but that probably ...

Re: Somethingness Volumes 1 and 2

Pop or poppy has been used to describe some of the sound, but I'm not big fan of that word as it's so nondescript; it's still just a buzzword for commercial top 40 music to me. I think this is very much still alternative rock, which they've essentially been since Happiness.

When I say "poppy" I ...

Re: Somethingness Volumes 1 and 2

I'm really digging this EP! It definitely has a modern feel, but with so many layers and it sounds anything but formulaic. I can't quite predict where the song is going at any given moment, which is great!

"Drop Me in the Water" has been on repeat for me for the last little while - that outro is ...

Re: New Album news!!

I dig the video..I sometimes get bored of just seeing a band play. There are quite a number of cool effects going on (like the part where you're led to believe the girl will break that bowl and kill the fish). I like things being taken from a different perspective and this reminds me of music ...

Guys, all the songs are also on YouTube. Looks like Raine already uploaded the entire record. :)

Re: OLP FANS - We need your help!

I would add a "Reviews" section (that could be under "Press" as well) to include snippets of positive feedback from various reviewers - it would good for fans old and new to see any positive press/acknowledgements being given to the band and it's always interesting to read what music critics have to ...

Re: WE ALL GET LIGHTER - Raine Maida's Sophomore solo Albu

Raine's new songs definitely have a cross between sounding like 90s post-grunge and indie rock. I'm also hearing some similarities to Yoav especially with the percussion beats.

I really enjoy what I'm hearing so far. It definitely does sound more out there than Hunter's Lullaby (although that album also went all over the place). I love the eery sounds and sights of "Sleep". :D

Re: General OLP News

I think they were at #185 on the Top 200 BillBoard Chart last week. They're not on the charts this week, though. Things should pick up once "As Fast As You Can" gets more promotion and maybe comes out with a music vid but at this point, I think OLP is on par with indie artists in terms of hardcore ...

Anyone else hearing "As Fast As You Can" on the radio? It's getting played quite a bit on 102.9 Sonic in Edmonton. :D

Re: New Album in 2012 - "Curve" April 3rd

"Curve isn’t an earth-shattering rock record and, let’s be honest, Our Lady Peace was never really an earth-shattering band. "

Ugh. Hate pretentious statements like this which are totally false. I just read somewhere the OLP is the #3 selling Canadian rock band after Nickelback and the Tragically ...

Yeah, if you're in a major Canadian city, you'll be seeing them at least once a year. They tend to do a lot of summer shows...especially in festivals. :D

Re: New Album in 2012 - "Curve" April 3rd

These reviews are depressing me, but again, not surprising if someone is wanting another repeat of post-grunge OLP.

I review music myself quite a bit and it's hard to write a good, objective review since music is so subjective. I think reviewers who review musical styles/bands they don't know need ...

Re: New Album in 2012 - "Curve" April 3rd

They played "Fire in the Henhouse" on Sonic Radio''s Farm Fresh last night here in Edmonton. Sounds amazing. I'm really hoping they turn that song into a single. There were all these different sounds that you can't hear on the mp3 versions.

I also love Curve because musically, it is a very strong ...
